In reply to: [Latest Post Shortcode] Shaded box around columns 2, 3 but not column 1Iulia,
Thanks for this. It worked easily.
I didn’t mark this as resolved because I have a sneaking suspicion that I have completely missed the documentation for this wonderful shortcode widget.
If such documentation exists, may I have a link to it? I promise that I will bookmark or download it and read it thoroughly before I post another query.

In reply to: [Latest Post Shortcode] Shaded box around columns 2, 3 but not column 1Iulia,
The CSS fix to the height of the columns has made this shading issue much more obvious. Any idea what is causing this?

In reply to: [Latest Post Shortcode] only the image shows on Elementor pageThanks for your reply! The CSS works. I apologize for putting you in the uncomfortable position of having to school me on responsive page building.
I chose the CSS because I am likely to adjust the shortcode in response to the boss’ reviews of my work.

In reply to: [Latest Post Shortcode] only the image shows on Elementor pageI just discovered that the text elements all show up in Tablet view (simulated by shrinking the browser size on my desktop.) The text is positioned to the right of the images (which doesn’t seem right, as I chose [image][title][text] format.) But then as I shrink it further, the text starts to disappear – while the images retain their original dimensions. I don’t know what this means, but the images seem to be crowding out the text.

In reply to: [Latest Post Shortcode] columns not responsive on smart-phoneLulia,
I don’t even pretend to know how these work, but I can report that they work!
Checked them on PC, Surface Pro and phone.
kitty,
I’m no expert, but I have been at this long enough to know this much:
1… created a child theme (there are many tutorials on this subject)
2… inserted the CSS that Michael posted here at the *end* of my /wp-content/themes/twentysixteen-child/style.css file
3… uploaded it – did not change anything elseAnd as the TV chef says: “BAM” it immediately worked:
> Every post now covers the left column wall-to-wall
> Images as well a text are handled
> The author Avatar and name are removed entirely
> The date and category are displayed left-justified at the end of the post.PS for clarity, this affect all blog posts, but not any pages.
A smashing success! This did everything for me. I hope others will enjoy the simplicity and effectiveness you have accomplished, all with -child CSS. You do quality work Michael. Thank you (Happy Wife = Happy Life!)

In reply to: Dashboard items missing after upgrade to 3.81IGNORE THAT: I was logged in as a user with limited authority. Duh!
So easy – just log out and log back in as Administrator – problem solved.
My apologies for getting Ultimate TinyMCE involved in this post – a great plug in that had NOTHING to do with my mishap.Forum: Fixing WordPress
In reply to: Dashboard items missing after upgrade to 3.81Same thing has happened to me, with a twist. Now everything is gone from the dashboard but Posts/ Media/ Pages/ Comments/ Profiles/ Tools/ Shortcodes.
I have many add-ins. A change I made shortly before everything disappeared is the addition of the Ultimate TinyMCE add-in.
If I could disable or delete that, I could at least disprove that had anything to do with this debacle.
I will look into how that might be done.It seems that the distinguishing factor may be that we are on a dedicated managed server, but we are running vanilla Linux, Apache, MySQL/5 and PHP/5 (as CGI) with no special features. I will leave it up to those who really understand shared hosting to sort out the conflict.
Now, if we can just figure out how to get people interested in *buying* the tickets… ??
I did find it rather tricky getting the calendar to connect with the EventBrite. After installing the Events Calendar plugin, I did get the new features showing in the New Post dialog: Is this an Event? (O)Yes (O)No – and then I created an event.
Then I installed the Eventbrite plugin, and went back to the post, and there was a choice to ‘push’ the event to Eventbrite, which I did, but it still didn’t seem to work. I poked around a bit until I found I needed to (CRITICAL STEP) get my API code from Eventbrite and insert it in the bottom of my admin user profile. Then things seemed to be hooked up, and I created a ticket in Events Calendar. (PS: I can create Eventbrite tickets ONLY from the admin user acount, because it is associated with the API. If I try to create an event from my “Editor” user account, it does not work.)
I went to EventBrite.com and found that the event was not there, saying “no tickets have been set up” even though I had set one up in WordPress. I went ahead and created the identical ticket at Eventbrite.com, and bingo, it shows up in the post view.
Convoluted, I know. I have had to repeat this roundabout for the second event, but ultimately it sells tickets directly out of WordPress as advertised.
Au Contraire! It works just fine.
I am a complete WordPress NuB – but have 30 yrs in computers – and I installed a new WP 3.0.4 site on my own managed 1and1 server with PHP5, with TwentyTen theme, Event Calendar, and EventBrite plugin. Everything works as expected after I studied the documentation and followed them carefully. My favorite tester (wife) went on the new blog an bought the first tickets a few minutes later.
NOT Broken:
I went ahead and installed this combination on a new site with no other plugins, hosted on a php5 managed server on 1and1. It worked initially, but then I broke it by changing the display name of the “Events” post category to something else. As soon as I changed it back to “Events” it works again. Come buy a ticket to “Spousal Deafness” in Newmarket NH: fotrb.orgOne thing that does *not* work is this: I inserted a Title in the Events List Widget of The Events Calendar, and it does not show on the page, but that is an issue with The Events calendar, not the EventBrite plugin.

In reply to: Post By EmailQuestion 1: I am no expert, but my understanding is that there is just one “post by email” account per blog, and that one has just one default category.
Question 2: These random strings are just examples of the kind of email account name you might set up on your own POP account, to reduce the possibility of someone guessing a name and ending up posting a message to your blog.
