In reply to: How do I register one sidebar for widgets per category?Have you tried Slayers Custom Widget
shttps://www.thaslayer.com/2008/11/08/slayers-custom-widgets-v12-wordpress-plugin-finally-out/
It allows you to decide which category you like to display which widget without the need to write any code, i’ve tested and seems to work quite well.
Sorry if i’ve misunderstood your question and this is not quite qht your after.

In reply to: WP2.8 –> AJAX death in K2So are we saying it’s a theme issue or a wordpress issue
Forum: Fixing WordPress
In reply to: Since 2.8 no theme editingTry changing your theme to the deafult wp theme if you can and see if you can then edit.
If you can edit the deafult theme this means the theme you have has some issue with 2.8 if you can’t even edit the default one then you could either reinstall 2.8 or downaload and manually upload files from tools > upgrades.
Or a plugin maybe casuing the issue so you could deactivate all the plugins see if that fixes issue if it does enable each one at a time until the problem reappearas and it will be the last plugin you activated which is casuing the issue.

In reply to: 2.7.1 to 2.8 messa error in panelSome plugins have casued issues with 2.8 so i’d deactivate all your plugins and see if you still get the message.
If you don’t then enable each plugin at a time until you get the message which means that plugin is the casue of the issue.
If after deativating all the plugins you still have message the next step is to change to the default wp theme and again check if you get message.
And if it does then i would reinstall the 2.8 files either from tools and upgrades and do re install automatically or by downloading and manually upload the files.

In reply to: 2.8 Serious issues- blank pagesHave you tired disabling all the plugins?? Two things causing issues in 2.8 mainly plugins and the other is some themes.
If you have done that worth trying to do upgrade manually i think automatic upgrade maybe failing on some sites either all files not getging accross or some setup on the host servers

In reply to: Dashboard and plugin tabs not open on clickIt’s no supprise quite a few plugins will need fixes to work with 2.8.

In reply to: WP2.8 –> AJAX death in K2I think a plugin your suing must not be compatiable with 2.8, i know Search Unleashed does not work and maybe live serach has a similar problem.
The only fix is to wait until a new version of the plugin is released.

In reply to: Just upgraded to 2.8, cant move widgets!More then likely the problem comes from a plugin as wp in it’s deafult flavour would not have that issue.
So best deactivating all plugins and re enable one at a time and check u can drag and drop until you find the one that stops you from being able to drag and drop.
More then likely some plugins will need upgrading to work with 2.8 but that could take time dependent on how well supported the plugin is.

In reply to: Site Down After 2.8 UpgradeHave you checked last few pages in forumns. From what i’ve read there is more then likely one of two casues to issues
1)Plugins – To get around this rename plugin directory and you should be able to get into the admin
2) It’s a theme problem which you can work out by trying the default theme.
Also i can see your login screen no problem Both in IE and Firefox maybe you’ve fixed the issue

In reply to: Joomla user to wordpressI did a joomla to wordpress conversion earlier this year but we a realtivley small amount of data. I found a script which worked with 2.3.3 i think it was.
It seems to copy most of the data with out a problem. But you’ll have issues with Multimedia and Images.
For the script to work you basically setup your categories in wordpress and then you map a joomla category to the wordpress and it copies info across in general. But you may have to do some work.
For the images i placed in a directory under wordpress and did a find and replace using a plugin and ammended the image url in the articles.
Do a google for joomla to wordpress. It’s a php script so it may even work direct into 2.8 or maybe with a few amends work or alternativley install same version as script works for and upgrade wordpress after you got data across.
