I don’t know how unique this problem is. All the research I did suggested active: 0, or first element open, is default for jQuery accordions.

I ended up going with this plugin:

Switching customs styles over was a quick process, and the author seems to offer quality support. Displaying open FAQ of my choice worked as expected.
