Yes all searches stopped working on the front-end and in WordPress Admin. Deactivating Better Search brings the WordPress Admin search back (ie searching for a post by title in wordpress itself) and the front-end of the site search is working (although it is obviously the standard WordPress search now).

So the issue was that I hadn’t included wp_head. I had left this out on purpose because including it is throw all of my css out of whack. I guess I just need to work out what files are being included in wp_head now.
