In reply to: is better use underscore or hyphen for technorati tags ?Just raising my hand as someone else interested in this question. I once emailed the Technorati folks asking essentially the same thing, but they never replied. This actually gets pretty complicated once you start thinking about all the related issues of Web standards, searchability/findability, etc. Complicated for me, at least. ??
@marcomail: Just to be clear: I think that there is a difference btw the text that appears to your site’s visitors on the one hand–if you choose actually to display the tags, that is–and the HTML markup for your link on the other hand. The emerging consensus appears to be that the thing that really “defines” what your tag means is what is on the other end (ie, the link destination). I should just quote from the microformats people:
The linked page SHOULD exist, and it is the linked page, rather than the link text, that defines the tag. The last path component of the URL is the text of the tag…
This, and other relevant stuff, is at the main microformats.org page for rel-tag. There’s also some interesting stuff on this page on “tagspeak,” though it’s not directly related to your question.
In the end, all this doesn’t seem to yield a definitive answer for you (or me)…

In reply to: How best to preserve mods to theme files?Otto–Thanks for your reply. Not the best news, no, but at least I now know where to focus my efforts! ??
I’ll consider how best to manage these mods as my site grows and the mods mature, but for the time being I should start with a very basic followup: In the example you give, would insert_my_google_analytics() be defined in functions.php? I’m (clearly) not a WordPress maven or a programmer in any sense, but I’m certainly willing to learn.
Thanks again.

In reply to: Long delays before settings, posts are displayedchradil et al.,
Well, perhaps WP-Cache isn’t the problem, after all! I deactivated it and experimented a bit, and I *still* couldn’t get my changes to go through with a simple reload.
Can you point me to a tutorial that discusses the method of using meta tags in the header php? I’m willing to give that a try.
Thanks!
Nate

In reply to: Long delays before settings, posts are displayedchradil,
Thanks very much for the reply.
1. Yes, I *am* using the WP-Cache plugin. Likely culprit, I’d say.
2. At the moment my ISP is Adelphia.
3. My host is DreamHost. They’re actually the ones who recommended the WP-Cache plugin; they automatically put it into the wp-content/plugins folder as part of their one-click install of WP.In Options>WP-Cache, the “Expire time” is set to 3600 seconds, which is a factory setting. This is the problem, no? And as the plugin developer says on his site, I probably don’t even need this on unless the site gets major traffic, right?
Thanks again,
Nate

In reply to: “Scheduled entries” and associated delaysHandySolo–Thanks for your thoughts. I brought my computer’s clock back a few minutes (since I keep it fast normally), and a sample post went through much faster since I’m basically in sync with the server’s time.
Cheers,
Nate
