Here’s how I got Multisite Domain Mapping to work…

3 days of experimenting, getting error messages, time lost and frustration…

Use the Trunk version available at

and pay attention to the guidelines on that page.

If your multisite wordpress installation is set up on an add-on domain on your host (I use hostgator), then I couldn’t get it to work by using parked domains, so I re-installed everything, new database, new wordpress, and then I added the network to use directories (instead of the freakish nightmare of subdomain wildcards).

To set up the htaccess file, I used FileZilla ftp but it added dodgy code in the file which I could not see. On going into File Manager via my cpanel I could see the dodgy code and could then paste in the required network rewrites.

The directory called blog.dir really is a directory called blog.dir and not just blog.

Once it’s all set up, go into each site you create into the backend and from there add the domain you want to map to.

Forget all the a record dns settings mumbo jumbo, and just do what any normal person would do to set up a domain to work on their site. Add the nameservers that your host gives you.

Then, add your desired domain as an add-on domain (not parked domain – providing you are using the directory set up rather than the subdomain setup) and whilst adding the add-on domain, set the root directory to the root directory of your wordpress multisite installation (and not the new site directory that are createing).

I really hope these notes helps save some people hours of lost time and frustration.

And please bare in mind today’s date of August 22 and be wary of amends to the plugin and what not.

It happened at the same time as my New Page creation button stopping working, as per

I will check with my host, bluehost, but would that also stop the new page creation from working?

awesome, I deactivated about 10 plugins that I thought could be relevant, and the problem has gone. So thanks. Now I’ll re-test each one…

I don’t want to deactivate all plugins as that will probably cause me to lose settings. Is there a more structured way of determining what has gone wrong? Surely there aren’t many ways that auto-forwarding can occur on the homepage to each new created page?

yes, I’ve also tried setting chmod to 777, deleting and re-creating the sitemap files. But no change. Only a handful of links gets added.

Ah I had 25 posts displaying on the front page.

I took gzip off and it seemed to fix it.

I then reduced the amount of posts displaing to 12, and added back gzip compression.

And it seems to work. It had too much to do I guess.

Oh no with showing 12 posts, with gzip compression on, it still has the problem, so I’ll have to take gzip compression off.

Any ideas why having that on is creating the error? And on that blog but not on my other blogs such as https://www.internetmarketingsolutiontips.com/b/

Hi, I just upgraded WordPress to 2.0.3. Then I installed AMM for the first time. I’m getting a blank page when I do a search for a keyword. So does it not work with 2.0.3? Thanks.

I am also having the same problem.

No double folder structure, and I uploaded using normal ftp client.

Only the standard 2 themes are showing on presentation page.

There are no errors mentioned at the bottom of the page..

To have bullet points, I need to use two of the functions.

I need to put il tags around every line I want in a bullet list, and I also must use ol or ul tags around the entire list as well?

Like this for example (I deleted the < and >’s in case the code activates):

Also,

I’ve installed the plugin called subscribe me, and the admin options window is there, displaying the images, and showing the feed that they connect to.

But in my actual blog page, they don’t show. I’m using Kubrich so the meta tag is already there so it should show up.

I also tried adding the the_subscribe_links tag but that doesn’t do anything either, except make the footer at the bottom of my blog not appear.

How do I fix that and why has it happened? I have created permalinks but it doesn’t make sense that I feed: is preceeding the feed link.
