In reply to: [WebFinger] ‘Webfinger end point not accessible’ but no explainerAnd btw, Siteground’s support chatbot does know about ActivityPub and has a rather bland help answer on setting it up:
To set up ActivityPub on your WordPress site, you’ll need to use a plugin since WordPress does not support ActivityPub natively. Here’s how you can do it:
1.?Install an ActivityPub Plugin:?You?can?search?for?an?ActivityPub?plugin?directly?from?your?WordPress?dashboard.?Go?to?your?WordPress?admin?area,?then?navigate?to?Plugins?>?Add?New.?In?the?search?bar,?type?“ActivityPub”?to?find?available?plugins?that?support?this?protocol.
2. Install and Activate the Plugin: Choose a plugin that best fits your needs and click “Install Now,” then activate the plugin once the installation is complete.
3. Configure the Plugin Settings: After activation, you usually need to configure the plugin. This can typically be done from the Settings menu in your WordPress dashboard. Each plugin may have different settings, so follow the instructions provided by the plugin to configure ActivityPub interactions as needed.
4. Test the Configuration: Once configured, it’s a good idea to test the setup to ensure that your site can communicate with other ActivityPub platforms.
If you encounter any issues during the setup or need further assistance, feel free to reach out to our support team. We’re here to help!

In reply to: [WebFinger] ‘Webfinger end point not accessible’ but no explainerGlad to see this topic is still live although it would be nicer to see a great conclusion! I heard from Siteground on Threads who said if I call Support they’ll help set things up manually. I’ve heard that before, but I called just now. The guy I spoke to had not heard of ActivityPub. Note this is Suppprt in a hosting company who say they know WordPress inside out and back to front. He asked me to email him a screenshot of the Site Status screen in WP admin that shows the ‘Webfinger end point not accessible’ error… to a ‘sales’ email address.
I despair, frankly, now asking myself why I use Siteground for my WordPress hosting.

In reply to: [WebFinger] ‘Webfinger end point not accessible’ but no explainerHi Matthias @pfefferle, thanks so much for your reply, even with bad news! At least I know the reason. It’s extremely disappointing to hear this is because of Siteground – that’s the last thing I would have thought of. I’ve taken a look through the thread you linked to, what a sorry state of affairs. But I will contact Siteground and add my 0.02 to the discussion on this topic.

In reply to: [WP Child Theme Generator] Critical Vulnerability – arbitrary file uploadAs of Dec 4, 2023, my site still shows 1.0.8 as the latest version and WordFence still shows this critical security threat as not yet fixed. Until it is, I’ve uninstalled the plugin.
@mrfoxtalbot spot on! That’s exactly it. Thank you very much, Alvaro, solved ??

In reply to: [Hoffman] Add complete always-visible menu below site titleWell, I advanced a little with a solution, following this pretty helpful guide: https://www.wpbeginner.com/wp-themes/how-to-add-custom-navigation-menus-in-wordpress-3-0-themes/. I’ve created a new nav menu, coded with a WP Code snippet, added CSS for styling.
And while the PHP code I’ve added to child header.php works, the end result isn’t working yet. What I get is the code as plain text appearing to the right of the site title image. At least nothing throws up any PHP or other errors. I expect I’m missing an element somewhere.
I’ll persevere!

In reply to: [Jetpack Protect] WP <= 6.1.1 – Unauthenticated Blind SSRF via DNS Rebinding@super1mazyoon thanks for posting about this. I got this alert today on one of my blogs and I expect I’ll see it when I check my other ones.
@lastsplash so essentially, there’s nothing to do about it because there’s no fix? I see that the Jetpack alert page about it shows “No known threats to affect this version” with every plugin and theme I have installed. Nothing else to check? Noting your suggestion re isolating site.
Thanks.

In reply to: [Blockbase] How to change text decoration via CSS?Right after I posted this, I noticed that my CSS addition is working as expected on single posts and pages, but not on the home page – there, all links have no underlining at all except for links in the header and footer. So it’s links in the general content section on that page that’s out of kilter with the rest.
I’ll investigate further but if anyone has a pointer, I’d appreciate it, thanks.
Hmm, I just realised that, when I got the error I reported earlier, I was running WP debug reporting to help figure out if a plugin is the cause of some white page issues I’m having re displaying category pages (I’m just getting blank pages).
Once I set debug to ‘false’ in wp-config.php, the JetPack connection error has gone and JetPack displays data in the dashboard, etc.
Curious, why would setting debug to ‘true’ in wp-config.php have caused the connection error? If that actually is what happened.

In reply to: Draft posts list no longer in admin dashboard 3.8…and a quick Google search produced a few candidates. I just installed this one – not supported on 3.8 but it works just fine:

In reply to: Draft posts list no longer in admin dashboard 3.8Got it, thanks, and I do see it if I enable Quick Draft in screen options.
I can see some logic in connecting Quick Draft with the draft posts list. Doesn’t work for me, though, as I never use Quick Draft and never enable it in screen options.
I’d just like the list of draft posts, as I had before. Guess I’ll be hunting for a plugin…
Ok, message on its way via that contact form.
Look forward to your further news. Thanks!
