Since you have access to your FTP, I would recommend deactivating your security plugin by going to /wp-content/plugins/ folder and renaming the plugin folder. You may also check the steps in this article.

As you have mentioned, you have set the correct permissions under ‘/var/www/html/wordpress’?directory. Please verify you have set the correct permission recursively to subdirectories as well. If needed, you can contact your hosting provider to check server-side permissions.

If you have a page builder installed on your site, I would recommend deactivating it first and check if the issue persists using the default Gutenberg editor. Make sure your page builder and theme are also updated.
