Changed two things:
1. Removed reply-to which was set to the mail the user entered.
2. Set the from mail-adress to an existing one from the same domain.
Not sure which one solved it, but now there is no problem on iphone or ipad. Still puzzled.. dont get how its possible the problem only appears on ios?
