In reply to: Saving nav menu crashes serverI’ve had the problem re-occur (I changed servers within the same ISP). Worrying and I lost half the extensive and quite complicated menu structure. Luckily I was able to Restore from a database Backup, although I had to go back some days before I got one that full restored the menu (why would that be?).
Anyway, I got my ISP to follow the advice given in the ‘trac’ system, viz."I just asked them to set the following two values in PHP. suhosin.post.max_vars = 5000 suhosin.request.max_vars = 5000 "
and this has worked extremely well, seeming to solve the problem and also making saving much faster too.
It’s not so good that what should be a straightforward menu system should need such serious heavy engineering work, is it?

In reply to: [Plugin: TinyMCE Advanced] Inserting <p><br class=”spacer_” /></p>I think one does have to have that checkbox unticked, but I haven’t had time to test properly.

In reply to: empty paragraph insertionsThat’s incredibly useful and I unreservedly apologise to WordPress for what now appear to be unfounded allegations. Thank you Ipstenu. ??

In reply to: How to link to home from header imageI’ve peeked at your site. Your header section logo’s link is merely to index.php, so if one is in a sub-directory page the link goes to that level’s index page, not the site. Change it to

In reply to: empty paragraph insertionsYes (thanks), but this then stops any other – more sensible – formatting, doesn’t it? Is there no way to stop the daft empty paragraph insertion alone, which I cannot understand why WordPress does in the first place !!

In reply to: empty paragraph insertionsI have copied the html to notepad and searched and deleted the expression about six times now. Every time I put it back into WordPress, WordPress ‘knows best’ and puts them back in. It makes a complete mockery of page layout and readability to have enormous white spaces between paragraphs of text. Why on earth does WordPress do this . . . ????

In reply to: Offline – Online synchronisation? It’s simply the whole damn shooting match! ??
If I add a plugin or change a setting, or add or change some words, or a page . . I tend to stick to the same Theme, but . . it would be great to do all that stuff offline, make mistakes, correct, be satisfied and then hit the button and synchromise the changes with the online version.
Feels like this is just a Step Too Far?Forum: Fixing WordPress
In reply to: Posts, selected by Category, on Pages? Thanks for your speedy reply, Rahul.
Unfortunately although I understand the idea of what you link to, sort of, it’s far too technical for me – I simply don’t have the coding understanding or the time to learn all that, fundamental though I’m sure it is.What I guess I’d really like is a plug-in that handles all the ‘under the hood’ stuff, that enables me, when editing/creating a page to see a widget selection box titled “See also” (or whatever) with a drop down of my categories (or tags), with the published result of seeing (say) 3 or 4 Post excerpts on the Page, that people who have read the Page can also go look at.
Is there one? Anyone like to create one? ??
Thanks again.Thank you for the v.1.6.5 namecheck, kirkpatrick – it’s a really good plug-in.
ok I’ve sorted this out. Simple mistake on my part, but not that obvious.
I had wrapped each Ad in a <div> to style it. In some of the Ads I had neglected to end the div </div> at the end of the Ad, so it effectively joined together what should have been separate, separately random, Ads.
Thanks again for the plugin.
Just goes to show, you have to be careful with this computer coding lark !! ??Forum: Fixing WordPress
In reply to: On-page 'Edit' linkWell, page.php had the correct call in it. I tried switching off plugins in turn, but no effect.
So, being able to get into the Admin area, I changed my password, logged out, went to /wp-admin put in the new password, got into Admin and when I called up a page, ‘Edit’ had reappeared.
So solved, I guess. Although I have no idea how the problem occurred in the first place. ??Forum: Fixing WordPress
In reply to: On-page 'Edit' linkAgain, I’ll certainly try that . . but I’m using Twenty-Ten . . and I’ll also check my plug-ins, although none of them are particularly remarkable. Will <?php edit_post_link(); ?> work for static pages as well as posts, I wonder.
Thanks for the suggestions.Forum: Fixing WordPress
In reply to: On-page 'Edit' linkNot a silly question – easy to miss the obvious.
But, no. I can ‘go’ straight into my admin section (using a bookmark) but if I then go from there to the front end site, no ‘Edit’ link. There’s something staring me in the face about this, some obvious setting somewhere, but I can’t get it !! ??Thanks – look forward to the update!
