In reply to: Currently Installed Version of WordPressI don’t understand;
When an update is released you wait for the bugs to be resolved, but those bugs will only be resolved in another update ? .I wait for the plugin/theme developers’ notifications that their software is “100% compatible” with the latest WP version.
Example from my Dashboard:
You have version 2.3.3 installed. Update to 2.5. View version 2.5 details.
Compatibility with WordPress 3.5.2: 100% (according to its author)
Compatibility with WordPress 3.6.1: Unknown(Actually in this case this plugin is compatible with 3.6.1 but for some reason WordPress doesn’t know it yet.)
If I were to update my plugins and then find out a specific plugin has an issue; is there an easy way to the previous version of the plugin?

In reply to: Currently Installed Version of WordPressThanks esmi and Ipstenu for replying. I am normally very good about keeping everything updated. The site in question is a small business website which I stopping maintaining for a while only to find on my return that the website hasn’t been updated.
I take a conservative approach to WordPress. I try to install plugins and themes from vendors that I believe will keep on top of things but I generally wait a few weeks to let them iron out the bugs before updating the software/WP.
I do think (and I am a person who has an opinion on User Experience (UX) issues generally) that the version no. is lost on the home page of the WordPress Dashboard. WordPress UX team should really think about also having that information prominently on the Updates page as that is where it is people need to have that info handy.
I will follow up on your sandbox idea. (It was always my original intention to keep a dev version of the site updated to test changes out on before making changes to the live site but laziness got the better of me!)
