Tom, I can’t even see my site with the error message I’m getting, similar to yours. I did an automatic update to 3.9 and now get this
Fatal error: Call to undefined function wp_register_plugin_realpath() in /home/content/66/11240366/html/wp-settings.php on line 213

So am I right in thinking that there is no way to recover sliders created in an older version if the advice above is not used? Unfortunate if not, as WP does not instruct on updating plugins in this way and I’ve only found out too late.

I have been going slowly mad with this too. Read your help with interest – downloaded 1.6 plugin, working it with slider version 2.1.3, wordpress version 3.3.2 and got the same error message as wodpresser75.
