In reply to: Cannot Get Home Page to be Static without blog stuffSomeone at the theme Suffusion helped me figure this out.
It was a WP issue.
Posting the resolution for anyone else with this problem:
On the “Page” page, whether adding or editing, there are 2 tiny tabs at the very top right of your screen: Help and Screen Options.
Click “Screen Options” and it will make available all sorts of choices. Make sure “Discussions” is checked. When you check that you will be able to see on that edit page the choice to disable “showing comments” and “all pingbacks”.
Once I unchecked these it removed the comments & blog type stuff from my static page.
Hope this helps someone else.

In reply to: Cannot Get Home Page to be Static without blog stuffI’m using Suffusion 3.7.8
my website is: https://jurywise.com/
I have made a new page called Home Page Test. Made it the Static Page choice under Settings – Reading. Made a separate page (I don’t care about) called Blog just so I could choose it as the “Posts Page” in case that was the issue. And under Settings – Discussion I have disabled and unchecked EVERY box to make sure no comments could be shown.
And yet its still a blog! LOL!
Thanks so much for your help!

In reply to: How do I create a completely new separate WordPress site? While on this subject – just curious: What is the difference between just going to the WP.org home page and installing and installing via a host or installing via Fantastico, etc? Aren’t these all really doing the same exact thing? I installed my 1st & only one direct from the WP home page, so I have no idea.

In reply to: How do I create a completely new separate WordPress site?Okay – my sitch is the 1st. I purposely set her up completely separately so she can either learn to take over her own site or have someone else admin it for her if she wants.
Thank you!!!!

In reply to: How do I create a completely new separate WordPress site?Ahhh! This is great! I just wanted to make sure that any new installation of WP doesn’t overwrite or affect the WP I already have for my own completely unrelated site. If I do it thru Hostgator, via the login for her domain I set up, will this set up a separate WP file & DB area in my computer without messing with mine?
Thanks so much for your help!

In reply to: Categories in URL?Okay thanks so much!
Forum: Fixing WordPress
In reply to: Categories in URL?But then it would just say:
myblog.com/new_category_base_name/recipe/post-title
for all my unrelated categories – correct?
why do they recommend we just not have the permalink be: %category% ??
or can I have the slug be “recipe” as well as the category? sorry to be such a doofus!
Thank you!

In reply to: Categories in URL?If I’m understanding you, I’m not crazy – (LOL) that I can’t change this without some additional plugin.
I thought maybe this could be solved with the slug name or by making a separate page called “recipe”….

In reply to: cannot change taglineI just did and it worked thanks so much – but do I need to do that every time I change something? I’d be dumping the cache every minute as I’m testing out changes….yikes!

In reply to: cannot change taglineYes – it is the first thing I did was to follow the directions and go to Admin & Settings. If I delete it, save and refresh its still there. If I type something new, save and refresh the old “Another WP site!” is still there.
Do you see it on the link (https://dothewill.com) – I tried adding the link and I see it doesn’t show up in the first post.
Thanks
