    FOLLOW-UP. PSS.:

    Hello Mikko. We deactivated Relevanssi and that helped. Search functions are back. Tried to clear browser caches, ran security scans etc.. After clearing the browser cache before deactivating Relevanssi ONE search was ok, after that the problem returned. After deactivating your plugin we have our search functions back.

    Last things first. I think I made it abundantly clear that we “besides the situation now” are very satisfied with the plugin and thanked you for the services provided.

    Since less than 0.5% of our subscribers grasped that independent journalism requires funding and them to chip in, our newspaper has troubles paying for all of the extras.. We have to pay phone bills, prioritize security, and so forth..

    When more of our readers put a little bit of money where their mouth is when they say that they want independent media, believe me, we’d be happy to pay you too.

    Now to the practical stuff.
    YES we use the latest version of your plugin.
    NO – we didn’t make any of the changes which you mentioned. Not any changes that could correlate to the sudden end of the functionality other than ….
    YES we did update other plugins – one pertaining security. You might want to look into that. I just don’t want to discuss which one in an “open forum”.

    So No, this didn’t help. I presume that leaves us with the only option to deactivate or delete Relevanssi until such time that it doesn’t render all search functions absolutely inoperative.

    As I said, both we as a newspaper and our readers were otherwise satisfied with the possibilities your plugin prides for and we’ll reconsider re-installing it once we solved the problem.

    Any help in that regard would be warmly appreciated.

    Error message is gone now.

    We contacted webhost which deactivated the …. (plugin)
    The trouble is that the plugin page claims its compatible with 3.1 and higher and that is not the case. It is compatible with 3.7.1 and higher.

    On an additional note: One more case of lacking reliability that plagues those of us who use wordpress professionally. Ultimately, it is a question of wordpress’s survival as a platform used by newspapers etc.. Others are there,.. would be a shame. Maybe it would be a really great idea to discuss the implementation of appropriate quality control, an ISO kind of system – it would create much needed trustworthiness. Thank you for your concern.

    But again, it’s impossible to access the website.
    An entirely different issue is that Wordfence claims that its compatible with a lower that 3.7.1 version, but that should be discussed somewhere else, about “accountability issues”. ??
    So now we narrow in to the why – which leaves the all important HOWTO.

    Again, we cannot even log into the admin area. As said before, when we try, we get a failure message:

    Fatal error: Call to undefined function wp_get_current_user() in /home/nsnbc/public_html/wp-includes/user.php on line 209

    Thank you for the advise that we could remove the plugin. Now the question would be HOW? when its impossible to access the website.

    USEFUL ADVISE would be more appreciate than your lecturing which solves absolutely nothing.

    What about a reply from someone authorized by JETPACK ???

    Catfishs.. again thank you BUT as I already told you many times… I have no idea about IT… Your explanation is “beginning” to help… a little bit ??

    1) log jetpack
    WHERE HOW ?? Where is it that I can log in… how to find it… how to even GET THERE ?? In the plugins menu ? left side, right? up ? down ? What is written there ?

    2) open jetpack and find the Photon module
    OPEN how ?

    3) click on info and disconnect the module
    On what INFO ?

    It’s over, you have your pictures in the usual format and larger scale.
    it’s just a way for it to work before a new update jetpack

    I appreciate that you try to help, but I don′t understand your explanations. Unless there is an update, I really need an explanation on the level of… 1) log in to your … 2) then go to the control panel on the left side and look for XXX 3) then do this 4) then that….
    I don′t expect you to do that, I think it would be much better if

    “DEVELOPERS” with all due respect for the fact that many of them are volunteers STOP uploading PLUGINS before a PROPER BETA TEST. ( lets hope one of them reads this)

    I think on the level of IT where I am, I would have to wait for an UPDATE hoping it comes SOON.

    b) and should this issue not be fixed with an update as would be appropriate ?

    If I un-check the attachments in the indexing the photos will disappear. That is fine… only problem…

    I have important PDF documents as content uploads.
    Will they also stop being indexed if I un-check the attachments from being indexed ?

    First of all thank you for sending an understandable answer this time. It was so easy, look there, and do so and so… without abbreviations nobody who does not know them understands etc…

    I managed to install and set the settings now. Works nice, thank you !!!.. I have one more question below, but first..

    A few lines about your “hostility” claim.

    Rather than seeing the frustration as Hostility – take it for what it is… frustration over:

    a) to receive an answer that did not solve the question or answer it.
    b) on top of that just CLOSE the thread as SOLVED when it was not..

    I am far from the only one who is very upset with the quality of the answers that are given in wordpress support forum…

    Sometimes you guys and girls would be wise to remember that the people who ask questions don′t have the same level of expertise as those who try to answer them. MORE AWARENESS about this could SIGNIFICANTLY IMPROVE USER EXPERIENCE.

    Again thank you for a great plugin….
    I only have one more question. Maybe something about the settings can solve it.

    When I search, for example for Al-Qaeda, I don′t only get articles but photos which are used in the articles as result..

    Is there a way to exclude photo results ?
    nsnbc international is a newspaper, so people are interested in articles, not so much in old photos. ??

    Besides that it just works fine.

    WHO CLOSED THIS TOPIC _ ITS NOT RESOLVED — and PLEEEEASE, you well intended people — don′t answer unless you have read the question completely, and unless you are both willing and competent to give a complete set of answers. Its really dragging the quality of wordpress down to get a (no doubt) well intended but utterly useless answer like the one from Mikko Saari.

    To make it short:
    AFTER Relevanssi is
    INSTALLED AND ACTIVATED.
    there is NO MENU VISIBLE where one possibly could edit the SETTINGS.
    and no – it is NOT there on the page with active plugins under relevanssi.

    A step by step, for dummies EXPLANATION without ununderstanadable abbreviations for the INITIATED would be lovely.

    With all respect for your answer and wish to help BUT, your answer was exactly one of the type I was afraid that I would get.

    I need a step by step EXPLANATION, no NIGs and NAGSs and other terms I don′t understand without a pedagogically viable USERS GUIDE FOR DUMMIES…. Can′t be too difficult to do give a useful explanation for NON-INSIDERS (If I knew how to make sense of the answer you gave, I would not have had to ask in the first place – do you see the point ? )
