    Hey Nick!

    Thanks so much for confirming that the “security” updates are nothing to worry about. I’ll try one or more older versions.

    Also, you don’t seem rude/unhelpful at all! I appreciate your quick responses, and your interest in sticking with me.

    Here’s what I meant to ask:

    On the Settings -> Discussion page in WordPress admin, there’s an option to use the following strings:

    %title — Post title
    %url — Post Permalink
    %author — Post author’s display name
    %excerpt — Post except (or a 150-character snippet)
    %post — Full post text

    I’m curious to know if there’s an option to use strings that identify a forum topic’s url and a forum topic’s title. I tried using “%topic_url” and “%topic_title” as well as “%topicurl” and “%topictitle” but none of these worked. My end goal is to use the topic url and topic title strings in the “Content of topic first post:” box, which is also supplied on the Settings -> Discussion page in WordPress admin.

    Thank you! ??

    Hey Nick!

    Thanks so much for your quick and helpful response. It is very, very much appreciated. ??

    I can try an earlier version (I’m currently using 2.2.4), although I’m a bit hesitant to do that, only because I’d prefer to use the version that includes your security updates. I did think of a possible workaround though. I don’t want to use much of your time, but would you mind answering one more quick question for me? This may be the fix I’m after, and a solution that could work for other plugin users who run into similar firewall-related issues.

    When the plugin is active, WordPress’s Settings -> Discussion page displays sections for “bbPress Topics for Posts Defaults” and “bbPress Topics for Posts Strings.” Since my site visitors are able to successfully comment on forum topics that are located on forum topic pages (e.g., domain.com/forum-root/forum/topic) but not on the individual post pages themselves (e.g., domain.com/post-name), I’m happy to just provide a link from each individual post page to each corresponding forum topic page, similar to the option you offer under “bbPress Topics for Posts Defaults” to display “A link to the topic,” so visitors can leave their comments over there. The problem is, when I select and save the “A link to the topic” default, the individual post pages don’t show any replies (only the link is shown), and I’d like those replies to appear. (Currently, the “bbPress Topics for Posts Defaults” options are to show the entire topic, replies only, a set number of replies, or a link to the topic, but there is no option to display both the replies AND a link to the topic so site visitors can see the replies on the individual post pages but officially respond to them on the forum topic page by following the link.) It’s unlikely that this option (to display both the replies AND a link to the topic) will become available, but I can accomplish a similar action by providing a link to the forum topic page on the individual post page. In order to do that, I’d need to receive the strings for the forum topic page (URL) and the forum topic page (TITLE)–would you happen to know what these are?

    To sum up, in the “bbPress Topics for Posts Strings” section on the Settings -> Discussion page, in the “Content of topic first post:” box, I want to write something like this:

    "Below is the Questions & Answers forum for our blog post <a href="%url">%title</a>. To ask a question or post a comment, please visit this page <a href="STRING FOR TOPIC PAGE URL">STRING FOR TOPIC PAGE TITLE</a>."

    This way, when the “Entire topic” default is selected, each individual post on my site will display the corresponding topic replies, as well as a link to the forum topic page where the firewall will allow them to post a comment. I’ll then use css to hide the comment box on the individual post pages, essentially forcing site visitors to follow the link to the forum topic page if they want to comment.

    My fingers are crossed that you can provide the strings for the topic URL and the topic TITLE. Currently, the Settings -> Discussion page provides strings for the following: %title — Post title; %url — Post Permalink; %author — Post author's display name; %excerpt — Post except (or a 150-character snippet); and %post — Full post text but the topic URL and topic TITLE are missing.

    Thank you! ??

    Hi again!

    So I’ve noticed something that may (hopefully) help solve this problem.

    When I’m logged into WordPress and I’m on the WordPress dashboard page, normally my JetPack site stats appear there (I’ve configured my dashboard this way). The site stats appear when I have JetPack enabled (obviously) and when the Simple Membership plugin is disabled. When I enable the Simple Membership plugin, the WordPress dashboard changes; it displays the typical WordPress log-in prompt inside of JetPack’s site stats box (see screenshot link below). I’m thinking there needs to be a bug of some sort here, because the log-in prompt shouldn’t display in the site stats box.

    When I disable the “site stats” module within the “all modules” page in JetPack though, the site stats disappear from the WordPress dashboard page (which is to be expected, since JetPack is disabled) but the problem still persists. I know so because within a minute (or if I try to click on any other page within my WordPress account), I’m booted out of WordPress entirely and see the regular log-in prompt on the WordPress redirect log-in page (light grey background with just the WordPress “W” logo, username/email box, and password box).

    Here’s a screenshot of what my WordPress dashboard page looks like when I have JetPack and Simple Membership enabled at the same time (showing the log-in prompt in the site stats box): https://prnt.sc/p35tk0

    Until soon!

    Hey James!

    Thanks so much for your response. This is SO odd. I’m at a complete loss.

    Unfortunately disabling the “allow users to log into this site using WordPress.com accounts” doesn’t change anything. Back when I first encountered the problem, I had several JetPack features enabled, but I’ve since gone ahead and deselected all modules under the Security / Performance / Writing / Sharing / Discussion / Traffic headings. After reading your response, I accessed the “all modules” view and noticed that there were five additional modules noted on that page that were activated (“site stats”, “notifications”, “JSON”, “custom content”, and “contact form”). I disabled all five of those modules so not one module on the whole list was enabled and the problem still persists. I’ve also disabled all other plugins on my site, so I can test everything with just JetPack and Simple Membership enabled. No luck. ??

    I’m stumped! What else should I try?

    Thank you again!

    UPDATE: This is a link to the support topic I started for the JetPack plugin: https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/jetpack-plugin-conflict-with-simple-membership/

    Hey mbrsolution! Thanks for your response.

    I haven’t created a ticket in the JetPack forum but I’ll do so now.

    I was using a few different features in JetPack (under their Security / Performance / Writing / Sharing / Discussion / Traffic headings), but I disabled all of them and the problem still persists. Regardless, let me know if you need me to send you a detailed list of all features I had turned on previously. They’re currently turned off.

    For active (i.e., “checked”) features I’m using through the Simple Membership plugin, these include:

    GENERAL SETTINGS

    “enable more tag protection”, “hide adminbar”, “show adminbar to admin”, “default account status” is “active”, “members must be logged in to comment”, and “enable debug”.

    EMAIL SETTINGS

    “send notification to admin” and “send email to member when added via admin dashboard”

    ADVANCED SETTINGS

    “enable expired account log-in” and “allow account deletion”

    To confirm, I have no “addons settings” through the Simple Membership plugin.

    I should mention that soon after I started this support topic I noticed that the problem still occurred with the 3.8.2 version of the Simple Membership plugin, so it can no longer be used as a workaround. I also rolled back JetPack to try the last few versions of that plugin with the Simple Membership plugin and nothing seems to work. All combinations of the two plugins boot me out of WordPress admin every time I try to do anything within the admin, including accessing a new page, saving a change, etc.

    If I could just disable the JetPack plugin to keep using the Simple Membership plugin I would. Unfortunately, my site is comprised entirely of portfolio projects, which require JetPack to run (i.e., when I disable the JetPack plugin, my site’s content disappears). When I disable the Simple Membership plugin and instead keep the JetPack plugin enabled, I can see my site’s content (when “portfolios” are enabled as a feature in JetPack), however no membership features work because the membership plugin isn’t activated. That means all of my portfolio content–which is supposed to be available to paying members only through the Simple Membership plugin–is made public for all to see. ?? If I enable both JetPack and the Simple Membership plugin at the same time, everything looks/works well on the front end, but I’m unable to access the site’s back end.

    Please help! Thank you! ??

    Thanks so much for your help once again!

    Unfortunately clearing the cache didn’t help, but I did update to the 1.3 version again anyway to try fiddling with some css tweaks and managed to figure out a solution. For anyone who has run into the same problem, the code provided above didn’t work for me, but this slightly-modified one did:

    .attachment-image img {
    max-width: 100%;
    height: auto;
    }

    To date, I have been able to get the image description text to appear on my image attachment pages; thanks so much for adding that to the latest update! However, the specific meta data that I was hoping to display on the attachment pages was the image caption (not the image description). Would there be an option to display that text as well? I understand that a quick fix would be to copy/paste all of my images’ “descriptions” into my images’ “caption” fields (when editing photos within WordPress), but my site has 3000+ images, so that would be tedious. All of my site’s images already have captions assigned to them, so ideally it would be great to display the image caption alongside the photo on the attachment page, in addition to displaying the image description that is now possible (and showing on my site) thanks to your recent update.

    I appreciate your willingness to help and am a woman of my word, so I just submitted a review for Kale for you here: https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/a-practical-and-visually-appealing-theme/

    Thanks again for any help you can provide! ??

    Thanks so much for your interest and help! Provided I can get this issue sorted out, I would be more than happy to write a positive review the theme for you and will promise to do so. ??

    I updated the theme to version 1.3 in order to try out the special image template. However, I noticed that the new version skewed my image attachment pages.

    This is a screenshot of what one of my image attachment pages looked like before the theme update: https://prnt.sc/grx067

    This is a screenshot of what the same image attachment page looked like after the theme update: https://prnt.sc/grx0tv

    This is a link to the attachment page directly: https://costaricatravelblog.com/villa-del-sueno/villadelsuenoplayahermosa-7-2/ (you will notice that the attachment page currently looks normal; this is because I reverted to the previous theme version 1.2.4 as I didn’t want to keep the skewed site live until a fix could be provided.

    At first I thought my images were causing the issue. However, upon resizing a few of my images (to avoid them stretching into the right sidebar space), I noticed that other text further down the page stretched into the right sidebar too. I’m assuming there was some kind of an entry content change provided with the new theme update that caused some of the body text/images to impose on the sidebar space.

    In order to move forward with the new 1.3 version (and hopefully find where the new “special image template” option can be used), would you mind letting me know how to fix the entry content problem I am experiencing? It must be related to the recent “special image template” work that has been incorporated into the theme, but I’m not sure how, or how to fix it. ??

    Thank you!!

    Sorry to bother you again! I just noticed that the blog post title on the actual blog post page has not moved to the left. I know we haven’t added a command for that yet, but when I try to do so myself nothing works (on IE or Chrome, and after the cache clearing). I have tried combinations of the following:

    .blog .page-header,

    .blog .without-featured-image > .entry-header

    .post .page-header,

    .post .without-featured-image > .entry-header

        .site-main {
            padding-left: 0;
        }

    …and other random selections that I guessed on after using the site “inspect” tool to find out what classes the title might be, but I cannot find the correct one to bring about the change. Would you happen to know what it would be?

    Thank you so much! ??

    You’re such a hero! I swore I had tried to clear the cache before and it didn’t work (such an easy fix!!), but it did this time–Chrome is now showing things perfectly. ??

    For IE, this is the version I am using:

    That is such great news! Sorry, I should have thought to at least try a different browser. I just did, and I can 100% see what your screenshots show when I launch IE. The browser I normally use is Chrome, and on it the archive and post titles are not shifted to the left (screenshot below):

    chrome screenshot

    For the second bit of code you gave me (for justifying the image galleries via the function command), this worked like a charm in Chrome (it spread out the galleries across the content width you set to 765), but when I checked in IE, it doesn’t appear to have worked. Go figure one problem would be solved in IE but not in Chrome, and the other would be solved in Chrome but not in IE. ?? Below is a screenshot of an archive page in IE (showing the archive title and blog post title correctly moved to the left, but the image galleries not justifying across the full 765 width as they do in the Chrome screenshot above).

    I tried entering the first bit of code you offered into my child theme’s css but for some reason it is not working for me. It can’t be a child-theme-related issue since I have used it for other css modifications which have shown live on my site without problem. ?? Any idea why the css would work for you but not for me? I saved the css changes so you can see how the archive pages appear on my live site to me; the following is an example of a tag page: https://puravidaeh.ca/tag/tours-offering-a-child-rate/

    The “more tag” link prompt and image gallery moved to the left as to be expected, but for some reason the archive title and blog post tile remain in the middle of the content width. I am stumped; I just can’t seem to get them to move to the left. ??

    I am making some progress (thought I’d update in case anyone else could benefit from knowing the below code I stumbled across), but I cannot seem to figure out the last step. If anyone could help it would be very much appreciated! ??

    I have tried using the code below in the wordpress customizer and it allows me to get partway there as displayed by the preview (I haven’t yet saved the changes)–it moves the excerpt (actually, the information above my posts’ “more tags”, since I used them instead of excerpts) to the left side of the page (within that vertical white space mentioned in my original question). It also moves the .entry-meta content to the left (if/when I don’t have it set to display: none).

    The problem is, I cannot get the page archive title (i.e., the “category”, “tag”, or “search results for” text at the top of the page OR the actual blog post titles to move to the left. I have tried commands starting with all sorts of page header and page title coding, but I can’t seem to get something that works.

    .entry-meta {
    	position: relative;
    	text-align: left;
    	display: none;
    }

    @media screen and (min-width: 1180px) {
        .entry-body {
            margin-top: -20px;        padding-left: 0;
        }

       .blog .without-featured-image .entry-header {
            margin-top: 0
    }
    }

    Does anyone know of a way to move the archive/search results title and the blog post titles on listed “blog pages” to the far left? The site I am working on is https://puravidaeh.ca

    Thank you!!! ??

    @gary-barrett

    What a hero! Both worked like a charm.

    For the first fix (category and tag pages), I can’t believe I missed the content options–what an easy fix! That was all it took, and all content I included before/within the “more tag” (text/gallery/link) is showing without issue.

    For the second fix (search result pages), thank you so much! I have a child theme installed and had been fiddling with the content.php file but nothing seemed to work. Your suggestion to change “excerpt” to “content” as described in your response was perfect.

    Everything looks great–thanks again for your help, and the quick response! ??
