I first used MainWP to one-click-solve a few security issues. I didn’t know I could do that with the plugin, but well took the occasion !
Now, I mostly use it to look at what plugins I have on what websites and be able to install/uninstall quickly.
It’s really free and it’s really helpful. There are many other things you can do with it and I am sure they work fine too because it is top-quality.

Can’t believe it, but I found a roundabout !
I went into the plugin dashboard under ‘Widget’ and changed the ‘Connect with :’ to ‘Connect with:’. Ah, ah ! This is a line that appears in my .po/.mo file … So the translation works now.

Well, after updating to WordPress 3.8.1, I could easily update Polylang to 1.4. That felt quite good …
I still have the problem on another website, but I saw this morning that I am also unable to delete other plugins on this website. So, it’s really not a bug on your side, you were right. I am sure I’ll eventually fix the thing with the help of my webhost. Thank you for your support.

Well, I tried that also. I tried to delete the plugin through FTP so I could upload the new version, but it won’t delete. And I tried to replace the old version by just uploading the new one on top (old newbie talking here, I don’t know if that’s the way, but I try). Nothing working.
So anyway, I’m getting closer to the cause of the problem. Thank you for your answer. I’m going to check with my webhost and I’ll keep you up to date.

I re-tried and this time, here is the message :
“An error occurred while updating Polylang: Could not remove the old plugin.”
