In reply to: Hanging on Database Update RequiredOh I never knew that was considered large. I will definitely remove old post revisions and try some other thing to clean it up. I’m glad we have this thread for me to refer to. I think it may end up helping some other people too.

In reply to: Hanging on Database Update RequiredOk I created an export file and will definitely backup the database again before the next upgrade attempt. Maybe I will try a different method of backup (not use the plug-in).
There are 1692 published posts and 4 pages. The backup generated by the “WordPress Database Backup” plug-in is 911.9 MB. The uploads folder is 336.4 MB.
Again… super thanks!! Back to posting and my life for a bit! I will probably wait a few days or a week to try the upgrade again.

In reply to: Hanging on Database Update RequiredHi Esmi,
I am VERY pleased to tell you the site is working again! There were only 2 lines that tripped up myPHPadmin during upload of the backup databse. After deleted them and pointing my wp-config file to the new database I was able to log into the backend. However all the posts were missing. On a whim I then pointed the wp-config file back to the old database just to check if the posts were still there. Strangely it allowed me to log-into the back end so essentially I am now back at WordPress 3.4.2 just as I was before I tried to upgrade.
When I was pointing wp-config to the new uploaded database why were the posts missing? Do I need to point something there?
Then again maybe it doesn’t matter and I should now just fix my old install. Find the 2 missing lines again and delete them from the old database?
Either way I assume my next step is to turn on debugging mode and fix anything there, turn off all plug-ins, temporarily switch to the twentytwelve theme and then try again to upgrade to 3.5. This part will take me more than a few days… want to carefully fix everything but also post some stories for a bit.
Thanks a million I mean it!!! I’ve learned quite a lot too.

In reply to: Hanging on Database Update RequiredHi Esmi (and good morning!),
I finally have all the files uploaded into phpMyAdmin however there is one part of the 15 that produced the error. What should I do? I can open that file in BBEdit. It’s about 5000 lines.
Again this was the error it gave me:

Thanks.

In reply to: Hanging on Database Update RequiredI’m uploading the other files now. How does the backup work? Even though there was en error did that file upload?

In reply to: Hanging on Database Update RequiredOk well I think the problem has something to do with wp_options. When upload I received this error: https://www.flickr.com/photos/thingstocomerecords/8288496009/in/photostream
Error SQL query: INSERT INTO <code>wp_options</code> VALUES ( 246, 0, 'vks_ad_flex_niche_content_link_color', '3C657B', 'yes' ) ; MySQL said: Documentation #1062 - Duplicate entry '246' for key 1
Any ideas? Oh my!

In reply to: Hanging on Database Update RequiredRaising the max_execution_time didn’t help. I create a fresh database and am restoring my back up to it. I have 15 .sql files uploading each under 50MB using myPHPadmin. There is also an index.php file… do you know if I need to upload that?
(This part will take some time.. uploading is a bit slow)

In reply to: Hanging on Database Update RequiredHi Esmi,
I increased the memory and now I get this error:
Fatal error: Maximum execution time of 60 seconds exceeded in /home/wiretoth/public_html/wp-includes/wp-db.php on line 1219
What do you think? Should I “Create a fresh database, restore your backup to it, upload a fresh copy of the WordPress 3.4.2 core files & folders (except for the wp-content folder) and amend your wp-config.php file to point at this new database.” or something else now?
Thank you!!

In reply to: Hanging on Database Update RequiredHi Esmi,
I will take your advice. Before I start I tried it one more time and interestingly now I received this error:
Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 134217728 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 35 bytes) in /home/wiretoth/public_html/wp-includes/wp-db.php on line 1220
Strange that error never popped up before. Does this clue us in to what may be going wrong?

In reply to: Hanging on Database Update RequiredHi Esmi,
I repaired the database using PHPMyadmin as you can see. After I tried to upgrade wordpress again and it didn’t work. I’m stuck on the white screen with logo.
Screenshot of PHPMyadmin after the repair:

In reply to: Hanging on Database Update RequiredI see! I’m learning here. I added the following to my wp-config.php file
define('WP_ALLOW_REPAIR', true);
Then went to:
https://yourdomain.com/wp-admin/maint/repair.phpIt is telling me “Some database problems could not be repaired. Please copy-and-paste the following list of errors to the WordPress support forums to get additional assistance.”…
wp_users: 7 clients are using or haven’t closed the table properly
wp_usermeta: 8 clients are using or haven’t closed the table properly
wp_posts: 5 clients are using or haven’t closed the table properly
wp_comments: 5 clients are using or haven’t closed the table properly

In reply to: Hanging on Database Update RequiredHi Esmi,
I did make a backup before I tried to upgrade using WordPress Database Backup by Austin Matzko. Should I follow the instructions here to “Restore My Database” using MyPHP:
