In reply to: [Panel] Comics Disappeared in AdminGlad you resolved – I was able to get the earlier version of Jetpack from a backup.
I didn’t realize that both Panel and Jetpack were from the same developer… I know Panel has been unsupported for awhile but it’s actually a really nice, simple theme for webcomics which I quite like.
I would love to know if there is a way to make this work without having to change themes and re-design my current site…

In reply to: [Panel] Comics Disappeared in AdminI believe it was over in the Jetpack forums where I was able to get the answer about this so maybe do a search there. Jetpack was the culprit.

In reply to: [Panel] Comics Disappeared in AdminHi there,
This happened recently to me as well. I uninstalled/reinstalled all plugins and found that the culprit for me was Jetpack. Once I updated to 13.7 (I think), my comics custom post type simply disappeared from my dashboard, essentially breaking my site.
The fix for now is to use Jetpack 13.6.1 and not upgrade the plugin, which is suboptimal of course, but the site is working. My theme is called “Panel” and relies on Jetpack to create the comic functionality but apparently Jetpack has said they are not reverting back, so once I have a few weeks of downtime, I’m going to have to change themes and re-do my website.
I’m probably going to change over to the “Toocheke” theme as it has the comic functionality built in.
Also interesting is that Toocheke has a plugin which apparently adds this comic functionality to other themes, so I may also try that – I’m not sure how well that will work.
Hope this helps – no idea why Jetpack suddenly did this but it’s a real pain.
Likely what I will do is set up the new site with the new theme at a different domain for now and maybe slowly build it out and then move it to the correct domain when it’s complete.
Thanks @swisha8c – so I believe deprecation means that the functionality I require from Jetpack to power this theme won’t be coming back? If so I guess that means I can keep going and not update Jetpack but that will likely cause issues down the road and possibly affect security at a certain point if PHP is downgraded, etc.
I think I will do that for now but at some point in the next few months or maybe during downtime towards the holidays (Nov/Dec) I’ll create a new site… The theme Toocheke for comics provides that custom post type in the theme itself but it will be time consuming as I don’t see an easy way to move the current comics posts into the Toocheke comics posts…
Again thanks for that info – let me know if I have misunderstood what deprecation means.
Yes, I would like to know if this is a widespread problem and if so, if Jetpack will address it in the next update…
Ok I solved this. The issue is Jetpack 13.7
I was able to restore a backup of my site from a month ago (July 19) where everything was working fine and my custom post option “comics” was visible in the sidebar menu in the WP dashboard.
I updated plugins and themes one by one, leaving Jetpack until the end. Once I updated Jetpack from 13.6 to 13.7, sure enough, the “comics” custom post option disappeared from the sidebar menu in the WP dashboard and the comics content and functionality was gone from the website.
Does anyone have any clues to what was updated in the plugin that would cause this? Any Jetpack folks?? For now I’ll have to stick with 13.6 and turn off auto plugin updates but would appreciate it if the next update can solve for this.

In reply to: Custom Post Type disappearedThank you for the suggestion – I didn’t realize there was a Jetpack support forum. I have posted it there as well!

In reply to: [Panel] Panel theme not working properly on Google ChromeThanks for replying! I cleared cache in Google Chrome and I’m not using browser add-ons and the site is still showing up like this…
I’m going to see if I can post screenshots somehow but basically what the problem seems to be is the css is not loading properly or at all. The site basically shows up with no formatting so all of the copy is left justified in Times Roman font, nothing is overlayed properly etc. It has the look when the css isn’t loading but in Safari it’s ok?
@cwbalmer Yeah I’m not happy about it – it’s a huge pain to have to do this, which is why I’m hoping Jetpack figures this out hopefully today…
I’m with Hostgator and I have NOT contacted them yet – I wanted to see if something was working here first…. I know they’re just going to tell me it’s a jetpack issue, nothing they can do.

In reply to: [Jetpack - WP Security, Backup, Speed, & Growth] Jetpack Fatal ErrorI did an Updraft restore and brought my site back up. Things were working for an hour or so and I just reloaded the site and now getting the same fatal error.
Please help!
@whitneymundell Yup that’s what I was getting and I’m with HostGator too….
@jeherve it seems to be fixed for me now (fingers crossed)
First, I deleted and reinstalled Jetpack and it worked but I lost some functionality from the plugin….
So – I use UpDraft for backups – the site was now working so I was able to go in and grab the most recent backup and restore and now the site is working and the specific functionality is working again….
I’ll keep monitoring.
Thanks @jeherve
I just tried deleting the plugin and re-installing it and the site isn’t crashing. class.jetpack.php is there (for now).
I can take this to a different forum, but:
My only issue now is that I have a comic site and the Jetpack plugin – when operating properly – created some functionality around my custom comic posts that is now not working properly – it was before.
