Your comments plugin now takes up a full height of a screen on my posts. It’s so gone and never going to be used again.

Oh, you’re just talking about “inspecting” the page. Yeah, I work with that daily.

And I can locate the elements on the page, but they are not differentiated from elements (ie title) on other pages. So I’m looking for a way to say to style.css something like:

if is whatever.php {do these styles}

Chrome, but I test on Explorer as well

I’m not sure. I’ve done a fair bit of WordPress dev, so I think I’d understand if you or someone could explain those two concepts:

1) how do I find the “HTML class” for the page I want to target? What would it look like?

2) once I have that, how can I put that in my style.css to cause styles for just that .php?

Is there any risk of the permalinks CHANGING? I can’t afford to have my links changed, as there is traffic directed to them.

Yes, but just went and deactivated them all again to check. Makes no difference if there are no plugins at all.

Hi, yes, correct, I want to change the display of the single post view.

I have uploaded a content-link.php (with code on it) to twentysixteen-child/template-parts, and then I select “link” in the post format options (already a function in twentysixteen, as you know).

No change to the single post, though.

Am I the only one having this issue?

I’ve tried it on 4 of my websites, all of which I’ve previously used formats on past themes. But none of them change.

I don’t understand what you mean by your second explanation:

the single post view does not distinguish postformats any more – there is only one content-single.php …
called by this line in single.php:

get_template_part( ‘template-parts/content’, ‘single’ );

Are you saying that TwentySixteen is not built for postformats like “link” “video” etc? If it is build that way, how can the line of code in question in single.php be changed to enable formats?

Just updating this. The issue was one I didn’t fix. For whatever reason, adding things above the header causes the sidebar to slide down uncontrollably.
