Forum: Installing WordPress
In reply to: I need help and a possible alternativeThanks for the input!
As far as your question, my first trouble was just getting started. For me, the installation was difficult. I had no idea what I was doing. The online guides didn’t help and I had to call my web host.
The fonts have been a big issue. It seems with the basic www.ads-software.com there are no real font options. I then added a plug-in that supposedly gave me fonts, but then I couldn’t figure out how to use it. Later on, when I went to edit a few previous test post the text in the post had disappeared. I made a post on this in the forum and was told to deactivate the fonts and I might even need to delete them from my plugins.
I see that you answered my recent question about fonts. That font plugin seems much easier to use than the last one I tried. Thank you. How come www.ads-software.com doesn’t have any font choices without having to use a plug-in?
I also had some password issues. My login was not remembering the passwords that my computer was storing. I had to call my hosting service to get that worked out.
I also don’t understand the templates. What they look like when I preview them and how they look on my site are different. Also, I am confused about changing the dimensions of my sidebars and creating drop-down menus. Manipulating the basic layouts of the templates doesn’t seem easy. I guess I could go on, but everything just seems little more difficult than I thought it would be. It is not intuitive.
Thanks.
Pat

In reply to: Only Seeing Code?Ok. Thanks. It was a font plug in, but by deactivating it I lost the fonts. I’ll have to see if the rest of steps help

In reply to: [PhotoStory] Blog width PhotoStoryThanks. Works great! How do I make the left side smaller as well?
I imagine it is similar to body “#content {width: 570px;},
body #sidebar {width: 165px;}”.But what word would I use for the left side.
Thanks!

Forum: Themes and Templates
In reply to: Blog widthI didn’t realize it would be different for each theme.
It’s PhotoStory and it was just one the themes available. I didn’t get it from anywhere special.
Thanks again esmi!

In reply to: PasswordI’ll have to look into that. I was not aware of the option. I spent several hours over several days reading articles on the web before going with www.ads-software.com. I never came across the option of using my own domain name with wordpress.com. I’m not sure why I didn’t discover that. I’ll look into. Thanks.
BTW. I just got off the phone with my web host (they have been hosting my domain for years) and we got the password issue cleared up.
Thanks again esmi!

In reply to: PasswordThanks for the comparison chart. Because of the nature of what I am doing I need to have my own domain. I need the professional look of the domain. That’s why I am leaving blogger.com.
I may have to check out what other options there are or make wp.org work.
Thanks.

In reply to: PasswordI’ll have to check with them.
The reason I went to WP.org is because I need to use my own domain for my small business and have the ability to schedule blogs. With Blogger.com I was able to schedule, but not use my own domain. I didn’t realize it would be this hard.
Thanks.

In reply to: PasswordThanks for link. But I don’t understand terms like ” PHP mail”, “SMTP” “Nix box” and others. That’s why I say WP is not user friendly.
So what is it asking me to do?
I am sorry. I just don’t know. I am not a tech person. I just want to write a blog.
Thanks!
