Too late I’d already deleted the entire website.

Weeks of work down the toilet, weeks of unpaid work restoring the website ahead of me, and a very unhappy client!

    Thanks hostpapa!

did manual update, problem is still there, Hostpapa were no help at all. Looks like I’ll have to do the whole site again from scratch.

    Thanks anyway

I did the following I found here:

    1. Via FTP or your host’s file manager, navigate to the wp-contents folder (directory)
    2. Via FTP or your host’s file manager, rename the folder “plugins” to “plugins.hold”
    3. Login to your WordPress administration menus (/wp-admin)
    4. Via FTP or your host’s file manager, rename “plugins.hold” back to “plugins”

    Problem remains ??

    the error_log file had this:

[24-Jun-2015 10:41:35 UTC] PHP Notice: Undefined variable: POST_CATS in /home/kateh801/public_html/wp-content/plugins/arscode-ninja-popups/arscode-ninja-popups.php on line 1668
[24-Jun-2015 10:42:24 UTC] PHP Notice: Undefined variable: POST_CATS in /home/kateh801/public_html/wp-content/plugins/arscode-ninja-popups/arscode-ninja-popups.php on line 1668

but those error logs were from before I deleted the arscode-ninja-popups folder using ftp.

The HostPapa cPanel Logs > Error Log shows absolutely nothing.

By the way it’s not showing that Warning anymore so I think that was just a temporary thing, maybe my internet went down or something.

Still the problem remains, it’s redirecting back to the homepage.

Deleted the plugin through wordpress admin, now I get this error

Warning: An unexpected error occurred. Something may be wrong with www.ads-software.com or this server’s configuration. If you continue to have problems, please try the support forums. (WordPress could not establish a secure connection to www.ads-software.com. Please contact your server administrator.) in /home/kateh801/public_html/wp-includes/update.php on line 295

And it still wont let me use the visual composer or update pages or plugins.

Interestingly I noticed it didn’t delete the plugin (when I clicked delete in the admin panel) and it’s still listed in the installed plugins (and when I click delete it just goes to the homepage now), so I deleted the plugin folder using ftp.

Attempts at updating posts and pages (or clicking Edit Text Block in Visual Composer) all still redirect to the homepage.

That last line “[email protected] Logout” was part of the web page, not part of the debug message, so scrap that.

It isn’t logging me out on update either, what it is doing is displaying the homepage whenever I try to: update a post, update a page, click the edit icon to edit a text block in visual composer (the visual composer windows even shows the homepage instead of text editing options).

Deleting and reinstalling the visual composer plugin didn’t help.

    I had this debug error:

Notice: Undefined variable: POST_CATS in /home/kateh801/public_html/wp-content/plugins/arscode-ninja-popups/arscode-ninja-popups.php on line 1668

but I fixed that by declaring the variable, it got ride of the notice message, but didn’t help.

Manually reinstalling WordPress again didn’t work the second time.

It still keeps redirecting to the homepage, please help!

    Cheers

Now it’s stopped working again. It’s also doing it now when I go to edit a text block in the visual composer. I went into ftp and deleted the visual composer plugin and reinstalled it and it didn’t help.

I put on debugging by going into the wp-config.php file and changed define(‘WP_DEBUG’, false); to define(‘WP_DEBUG’, true);, and it says this:

Notice: Undefined variable: POST_CATS in /home/kateh801/public_html/wp-content/plugins/arscode-ninja-popups/arscode-ninja-popups.php on line 1668
    [email protected] Logout

That last line “[email protected] Logout” might be a clue, because that is what it is doing, logging me out and taking me to the homepage.

Manual update didn’t fix it the first time I did it because I didn’t delete all the files first.

So I deleted all the files except wp-config.php file and the /wp-content/ directory and unzipped the contents of the latest wordpress zip file to the directory.

Manual update DID fix it, thanks heaps Tara, you rock!

Took me all morning, but I did everything you said, still not updating, still redirecting to the homepage and not updating anything.

To anybody reading this, please don’t mention clearing my browser cache OF COURSE that was the first thing i tried (plus it’s redirecting to the homepage, out of admin without updating).
