and replace it with

.sidebar-right, .sidebar-left, .site-content,.entry-content, .entry-meta , article, span, a {
	word-wrap: break-word;
}

The theme has background image for body in styles.css

You may want to edit css and remove the background image property before you apply color to background.

Are you using background image setting provided by theme and wordpress customize settings at once? Please check you have not set the background image and then try the color change.

Did you set the template for page as “Front Page with Slider” from page add/edit option. If not please set it and then check. If still not working, I would be more than happy to assist you.

Thanks for your comment, Archive pages uses by default right sidebar layout, no facility to change as of now. For pages you need to apply required template from the template dropdown on page edit option

Fix is available in latest 0.8 version of openstrap theme.

I dont think its because of your css code. The fix will be available in next version of theme. 0.8 version is ready and approved. Once its live you can download it and check.
