I was having the same problem with WP 2.1, namely can’t create new category. I did a re-install which did fix the problem for 2 weeks. This time around when the same problem occured again I was way too far into the site the do a re install one more time. I was determine to find the solution.

Finally, today I found a post about using Category Manager plugins to solve “Can’t create new category” problem. All I did was installing this plug in and activate it. Every things is back to normal I can manage my categories again both from the plugin tab and the normal manage>categories tab. Try this solution and see if it work for you. It sure did for me. I am encounter the same problems everyone is having with Manage category. Last night I accidentally create a duplicate category, so I delete it that when it all started. WP doesn’t allow me to manage category any more. bierflesje you mentioned that you can create a new category by writing a new post under the write-new-post screen. I went there but under the category are the categories that are already there, but I did not see any option to add a new category….Can you explain how you create a new category under write-new-post screen?

I which this problem can be solved. My site is Categories intensive and it would not work if I can’t create new categories… WP is great but this is driving me crazy.
