    It seems like the simplest solution would be to just create a custom table in MySql with some basic code to call the data from the table.

    Does anyone have a good beginner’s reference for developing a simple custom database tool in MySql + a guide for integration with WordPress.

    Okay, so I solved the problem myself.

    I just did a clean install of WP. Previously I had installed an older version via CPanel and then manually upgraded to 2.5.1.

    As it turns out, learning how to install it myself manually was easier than fussing with the lame CPanel install+upgrade combo.
