In reply to: Remove captions from gallery thumbsThanks Esmi. I thought this was just a standard WP thing which was why I asked here.
Anyway I kept playing and realised that ‘caption’ overwrites the image title, so am just using titles and no captions = title on full-size image, but not sitting below thumb, which is what I was after.
Basic stuff I know, just never had to do it before!
Cheers,
Beth

In reply to: Remove captions from gallery thumbsThanks Esmi. I have custom CSS and am comfortable customising themes this way or by child theming, but what I’m stuck on is I can’t find *what* to customise or work out what I need to add to change this particular thing!

In reply to: [Crafty Social Buttons] Add to header? Thanks Sarah!
Do you mean I literally just add that line of code to the header, where I want the buttons to appear? If so that’s no problem ??

In reply to: Should I use a subdomain (and if so, how)?Oh it’s okay – I got this figured out. Partly I was confused about what was possible with subdomains and separate installations because I use a cloud hosting system which works differently from cPanel in terms of adding and using subdomains.
Cheers!

In reply to: Bringing SEO etc from .com blog…?Quick update on this – WP.com offer a paid-for redirect. It’s in the ‘store’ area of the .com dashboard and costs $13 per year. Worth it ??
Can’t bring the SEO with me but never mind!Forum: Fixing WordPress
In reply to: Bringing SEO etc from .com blog…?Thanks webbrewers!
The thing is, it was a wordpress.com site, as in, the url was domain.wordpress.com
I’ve done redirects in the past with domains I/my clients have owned, but as far as I can tell, it’s not possible to own a wordpress.com domain or have the ability to put a redirect on it – is that right?
Hmm, now I’m thinking I should have asked this over at .com support, sorry!
Thanks,

I can manage my files via the host so will try this now.

In reply to: Fatral error in functions.php and custom CSS file locationI’m going to accept losing my customisations and re-do them – it’s more important to get the site up and running again as I’ve built it for a friend and she was hoping to work on it herself today!
So coming back to Emsi’s advice here:
Try re-uploading all files & folders – except the wp-content folder – from a fresh download of WordPress. Make sure that you delete the old copies of files & folder before uploading the new ones.
By ‘fresh download of WP’ does this mean reinstalling WP?
Thanks,

In reply to: Fatral error in functions.php and custom CSS file locationThanks for the fast response!
It’s a theme that includes a custom CSS option.
The site doesn’t load – every page front or back end just gives the error message. (Oddly, there is no ‘<‘ at all on line 74..!)
I can’t find my custom CSS via the link you sent – the code given is not my custom CSS.
Thanks,
Beth

In reply to: Fatral error in functions.php and custom CSS file locationIf it’s part of the site content then presumably I won’t lose it when I remove all the non-content files and re-upload them? Just don’t want to risk losing all that work.
