In reply to: [Yoast SEO] WordPress-SEOMy particular problem was caused by my ftp client. It hadn’t transferred the full file set to the server. So I deleted the folder structure and used a different ftp client to transfer the files. Problem sorted. I am really new to all this but there may be a particular order to installing the various updates so it might be worth trying what I did although I don’t know if you will lose your configuration settings.

In reply to: Browser Tab DescriptionFrom what I can see, the default heading on the browser tab is page title | site title. This is how I understand this line from the header.php file <title><?php wp_title( ‘|’, true, ‘right’ ); ?></title>. I did try reversing the code but didn’t quite get the syntax right. But I am new to all this and am happy to learn from others.

In reply to: URL Format – www or notExcellent. Thank you so much for these pointers. I had tried to use key words for each page that appear on my website but also include mis-spellings of some of them. Maybe my thought process was wrong here. But people sometimes refer to Argentine Tango as Argentina Tango, or Wilson’s Dance spelled as wilsons dance (without the apostrophe) but I guess google is clever enough to pick up on these things as I often get a search return that says “did you mean….”. Your advice sounds good and I will rethink my approach.

In reply to: URL Format – www or notThanks for taking the time to explain this to me. My website is basic and really there just to market my dance classes but there is another school nearby that appears in the first ten entries that google returns as they have a number of different domains registered which all resolve to the same website. Their site in itself is quite poor but they are getting the hits and they have obviously got their head around the key words issue. I have installed the all in one SEO plugin and went through the process of populating meaningful titles, descriptions and key words for each page and probably went a bit overboard with the number of key words I used. However, I have now read somewhere that search engines don’t use this field as they build their own list from the content of each page submitted in the sitemap. Do you know if this is this correct ??

In reply to: URL Format – www or notI am totally new to all this. I signed up with a hosting provider a week ago and developed my website in 10 hours using the Twenty Twelve Theme but I’m struggling with all the SEO stuff. In fact it’s been harder that the web design. My research lead me to think the address may be an issue. If you look in WordPress General Settings the WordPress Address URL and Site Address URL default to https://www.wilsonsdance.co.uk. I never set those up. My host provider says none of this is an issue and certainly if I enter https://www.wilsonsdance.co.uk or wilsonsdance.co.uk they both resolve to my website. I was just concerned that the sitemap generated shows www urls and as I’m having problems with getting google to recognise my site I didn’t know if this was the issue or not.

In reply to: [Theme: Twenty Twelve] Replace Site Title With ImageMy friend, you are a star. That works a treat. How are you with menus / sub-menus as I raised a support question a couple of hours ago

In reply to: [Theme: Twenty Twelve] Replace Site Title With ImageHmmmmm, tried that but didn’t do what I expected. So I’m guessing I might not have done it correctly. What has happened is that the strap line has disappeared but there’s no image and that main theme title has remained. I copied your suggested coding to the bottom of the style.css file in my child theme directory and copied the url using the instructions you gave above. Here is the code
@import url(‘../twentytwelve/style.css’);
.site-header h1 a {
background-image: url(https://www.wilsonsdance.co.uk/?attachment_id=100);
background-size: contain;
background-repeat: no-repeat;
color: transparent;
line-height: 80px;
}.site-header h1 a:hover {
color: transparent;
}.site-header h2 {
display: none;

In reply to: [Theme: Twenty Twelve] Replace Site Title With ImageAh, I take it a custom.css plug in allows you to keep the changes separate so you have a record of what changes you have made. If my image is uploaded to /public_html/wp-content/themes/twentytwelve-child-01/images/sitelogo.jpg then what is the correct syntax for the url.

In reply to: [Theme: Twenty Twelve] Replace Site Title With ImageThanks Batharoy, I will give that a go. I am very new to all this so can you confirm that we are talking about editing the style.css – is there a specific point within the file that this coding needs to be placed – what is the syntax for the url. I was just going to upload an image to my images folder within the child theme folder.

In reply to: [Theme: Twenty Twelve] Replace Site Title With ImageThanks for the reply, however I may have not been as clear as I could have been. When I do as you suggest it replaces the Twenty Twelve and strapline with my logo but the menu moves upwards. What I am trying to achieve is a small logo above the menu to replace the Twenty Twelve Theme title and then place a larger banner image below the menu. If this is possible. I have learned so much in the past 48 hours that it is only this issue and one with the menu / sub-menu that I need to resolve. Since my initial post I have reverted back to the original header.php and style.css. Kind regards,
