Yes. I just thought the way I have them presented was a little untidy and they could look more ordered.

Found it. I have been trying to add Webmaster Tools to the site using All In One Webmaster plug in which added these characters. I deactivated the plug in and they have vanished.

Hi bdbrown,
It is a graphic showimg the site title, the date of the event and a logo. Your comments got me thinking about the link and when I checked its path in the theme header options it was pointing to localhost!!!
Sorry for being so dim and thank you for making me work out the answer.

Thank you but this has not worked and I think the problem may be browser related so I will make a new post.
