  • The markup on lines that the W3C Markup Validation Service complains about looks like this:

    #<div class="entry">
    # <p class="MsoNormal">
    # <p class="MsoNormal">
    # <p class="MsoNormal">
    # <p class="MsoNormal">

    That is, the paragraph element are not closed.
    What you do to get this kind of markup, I don’t know, but unclosed elements ( or tags ) are not allowed in HTML, much less XHTML Transitional.

    To see what lines the line numbers refers to in the validation service, just rerun the validation with the check box “Show source” ticked. After the list of complaints, the source with line numbers is presented.

    Good hunt!

    World writability really sounds scary, and I think it would be a good idea to give the user community some solid advice as to what is the necessary permissions.
    Making a backup with Skippys plugin is convenient, and I think it should stay in.

    I use it all the time, and I’ll continue doing so, lazy as I am. I don’t wp-cron it, just activate it for a few seconds to make the backup and then close it down.

    I feel safe with that, and to reiterate:

    Description:
    WP-DB Backup is vulnerable to directory traversal attack.
    You must have administrator rights in the wordpress blog to exploit this vulnerability.

    Hey moshu!
    Ctrl+End or scroll bar, no? ??
    Back in a few weeks.

    B good!

    I don’t know what version of Windows you are using. If it is Win 2000 Server version, I believe you should set write and execute permissions for the web server ( I guess you use IIS ) on the cache directory.

    This user, if you didn’t change that, is normally IUSR_your_machine_name, e.g. if you named the maching TAURUS, IIS would have the user name IUSR_TAURUS.
    ( This is the proxy user for the anonymous client/browser ).

    This is a new and untested service and we’ll just see how it turns out. You may well have concerns about such an arrangement, but anyone is free to choose to use it or not. I can see no harm in that. If it turns out that for some reason it doesn’t work well it will be improved or nicely shut down.

    As for the opinion that a blogger is better off learning the installation process, I agree, but not everyone need to know the technicalities of WordPress from day one.

    For the not so tech savvy, it might be a good thing to just start blogging. Then peu à peu discover how to tune or change a theme, install plugins, etc.

    By slowly learning stuff, probably supported by the helpful crowd in the WP support forum, the blogger will be able to make a WP upgrade or even build his/her own theme.

    It’s all about getting started, and about promoting a good blogging platform.

    Let’s hope it works out, and let’s not bring it down before it leaves the launch pad!

    niziol: I’m having the same experience right now.

    I’ll have to investigate that. My AdSense text links show up, but full ads are delayed by seconds to tens of seconds.

    I also use Google stats and even after my ads are loaded, the browser still waits after 40 secs for something.
    It could be the last bytes for the ads or the stats call.

    It would be fine if the Google connections had a time out, so the rest of the page would load even if Google service are dead. This time I got my full page after around one minute. Totally unacceptable.

    Do you have a solution?
    I want to keep the ads, but it is important to show my page fast enough not to be ridiculous.

    I agree with podz, and just want to add that it could be something your web host puts in your document tree, for example as a proxy for your mail.
    Check with your host if this is something normal.

    I agree with milb – a little more of exactly how you do it would be good.
    One thing really puzzled me. You say | I just sit here and click “Add Custom Field” |.

    Why? That doesn’t seem to have anything to do with image upload.
    You also say that you press Enter a lot of times, and that it sometimes solves the problem. In what insert field?

    You have a button for “Browse” and another for “Upload”.

    I’m not implying anything here, just curious.

    Like HandySolo I believe it’s a server hickup of some kind, despite your ISP:s statement au contrare.

    Yes, WordPress is a beauty, but I can imagine your frustration. Hopefully this will be solved.

    Bumping this, since no one seems to jump in here.
    Is it Spam Karma or any other peculiarity?

    oopat:”without sounding too pretentious”, you host stinks.
    Cheap has a double meaning to it ??

    First I don’t think it is a good idea to have your WordPress installation in a “cgi” directory. It normally is a directory or an alias for a directory, where you keep your executable scripts. In such a case, that directory is not in the web servers document tree, and cannot be reached from a web browser.

    Your WP installation should clearly be in your document root or in a directory below that, and you should be able to point your browser to something like:
    https://stocksandmutualfunds.com/ or https://stocksandmutualfunds.com/blog/ to show your entrance page. In that directory, you should find among other files, index.php and wp-config.php

    As srikat pointed out, you should find your admin.php in the wp-admin directory, like in https://stocksandmutualfunds.com/blog/wp-admin/

    For the PHP requirement, wait for miklb.

    Beats me.
    Anyone else ??

    Checked that now. bmg1227 is right.
    If you want the three narrow columns ( sidbars ) to line up under each other, I think the easiest way would be to encapsulate them in a parent sidebar, say a <div id="bars"> and in the stylesheet add a style rule
    #bars{
    float:right;
    width:xxxx;
    }

    giving #bars a suitable width so the second bar is pressed below the first.

    I haven’t tested this, but it seems to be a possibility.

    Maybe the author of the theme has already thougt of this possibilty, so why not ask him/her at https://oriol.f2o.org/

    Mostly this problem appears after an upgrade of WordPress ( delete the cache ) or when using some versions of Spam Karma.
