    Found the code I needed in comments.php in the wp-includes folder.

    Just in case anyone else needs the info.

    I’m looking for exactly the same thing. I want to set up a box where people can subscribe to a newsletter which I will send out periodically with news on my book.

    I’m absolutely not looking for people to have to become members of my blog, or to receive notifications when I post something new.

    Is there anyone out there who can offer advice, or even come up with a tailor made solution for my blog, which I’d be willing to pay for?

    Thanks

    I think I figured this one, I just needed to create a blank “cache” directory to replace the one I had deleted. Found the answer in the plugin’s own read me.

    Phew.

    I hope this can help someone else!

    I will add that I had also de-activated all my plugins as instructed.

    i went in to turn it back on, thinking it would solve things, but I can’t de-activate or activate any plugins now as it just churns out lists of error messages

    I have a gemini template left over from the olden days, so using index.php and comments.php.

    I can’t see what to change, the only bit relating to closed comments is:

    <?php else : // Comments are closed ?>

    <p><?php _e('Sorry, the comment form is closed at this time.'); ?></p>

    <?php endif; ?>

    but that doesn’t tell me where the “comments off” text is coming from.

    Doh! I had a bit of .htaccess code in there which I had forgotten to personalise so that my own domain could use my pictures. So that should mean people can see my pictures.

    But the uploading question still remains.

    I heard nothing but good things about A Small Orange before I signed up, but now I’m here, if I can’t use image upload and theme editor without temporarily changing the CHMOD settings to 777 and then back again to 755 afterwards, it’s a real pain….

    I’ve just moved to A Small Orange – on a shared server – and it appears that if I don’t have the images folder set to 777, not only can I not upload images, but my visitors can’t even see them. This is ridiculous, no?

    Given that the ASO support forum is full of people moaning that folders they left set at 777 were hit by malware, and ASO themselves say do not set to less than 755, I don’t know what the solution is?

    I have a feed problem on https://www.petiteanglaise.com. I moved to a new server at the weekend, simply copying across by ftp my wordpress installation and the database, and I now notice that bloglines is not picking up my last post, and returns an error message as follows:

    Home > My Feeds > Feed Error Help

    Bloglines has encountered an error trying to fetch the latest version of this feed. Bloglines handles errors automatically, no action is required by you. The error was:

    The feed does not appear to exist. This can be caused by the feed URL being incorrect, or it can be caused by a configuration issue with the server hosting the feed. If this error continues, you should check the feed URL and, if it is wrong, subscribe to the correct URL.

    I have re-uploaded the wp-feed.php file and also changed the CHMOD on all the feed files. Can anyone see what is wrong here?

    Thanks!

    Anyone? (By the way, I am not yet upgraded to WordPress 2, I think I’m still on 1.6)

    Plesk only shows me that http is taking up 93% of this bandwidth, which now totals 1 005.31 MB since Sunday evening. I can’t get a file breakdown. (I do have a link to a pdf up at the moment, which may not help).

    I’ll look into the cache plugin, because it was the number of hits to my SQL database which caused my provider to give me grief in the first place. Perhaps unnecessarily.

    I’m considering using A Small Orange. If anyone fancies referring me – in order to get the free month’s hosting – let me know!

    Thanks for the help. Am I right in thinking then that when this sort of thing happens, it’s any javascript in the index (ie stat counter, who’s on my site right now etc) which can get ‘infected’?

    Just trying to understand – at the risk of sounding very dumb!
