    Found the problem!

Duck Duck Go Privacy Essentials add-on for Firefox. Disabled this and iFrames are working.

Thanks for the input on this one.

The only plugin that’s ever been active on the vanilla site is the Amazon Associates Link Builder plugin. Now, in actual fact, I did have the IsleMag theme installed, but I got rid of it for the test. The theme on the site when I did the test is Twenty Seventeen which I am pretty sure is the default theme on the vanilla install.

I’ve got all all ad blockers disabled. In any case, I can generate advert links manually with link + image and they work fine.

It looks as if there are multiple issues here, both theme and browser related.

I’ve got another site I am building so I did an install of the plugin on vanilla WP 4.9.4 and made some comparisons

    The results are:
IsleMag + Firefox Quantum = nothing displays
Vanilla 4.9.4 + Firefox Quantum = nothing displays
    IsleMag + IE 11 = nothing displays
Vanilla 4.9.4 + IE 11 = the link is there, but all that displays is the price (it should be a full text and image picture of a kindle)

If the behaviour is this unpredictable I think I am going to be better off just building my links manually. I suspect in the long run it will save me both time and sanity.

Ignore the link in the post above. It now points to the page after I fixed it. I didn’t get any responses here, and I never found the cause of the problem, so I had to work around it. I created a new page, copied all the text and links across from the old one (I could still see it on the website, just couldn’t find it from dashboard) then swapped the references from the old page to the new.

The phantom page 614 is still drifting about somewhere like a little electronic Mary Celeste.

If it helps, here is a link Problem Page

As you can see, I am using the plug-ins “Inline Posts” and “Table of Contents Plus” to link a number of pages into a single page, with a Table of Contents at the top. The rogue page, ID 614, contains item 5 onwards in the ToC.

However, this is not the issue because I can deactivate those plug-ins… in fact, all my plug-ins… and I am still left with a mystery page 614 which cannot be seen from the dashboard, and which gives the error message if I try to use the edit link on it.
