I guess that way of handling the parent function would be transferable to other child themes as well? Just to make sure that I understand the code, are you creating an empty function in the childthemes function.php?

Your problem is that the date is inside the class=post, which is probably set to font-type=Times New Roman.

I suggest that you create a new date style like I showed on my page and then wrap it around the date:
<div class=date><small> Your Date PHP tag here </small></div>

Have you tried to create a new style in the stylesheet.
I had the same problem with my date as well. But I sorted it out by creating a new style in the stylesheet. Have a look here: Update: New date format.

It would be a lot easier to help you out, if you could point to your site. However, it does sound like there is a problem with the index.php and how it includes header.php and footer.php. Though I cant really tell.

How did you add the more tag? Did you use a plugin?

I think I can see your problem, however, I would solve it using CSS. Have a look at this site. There is a tutorial on how to do the job of creating a CSS horizontal menu using a picture.

Not that Im sure, but it seems to me that you are missing some pictures, and that would be a problem. However you might want to have a look. What you could do, was to download the theme style that you created at WordPress, and then upload it to your own site. That would solve the whole problem I guess.

Im not quit sure if this will help you, however, I tried to change the header image of the kubrick default theme. It didnt work out for me. So I made a work around. You can see how it is done at my site.
