It actually also depends upon the site layout that you are using.
If you are using wide layout ( 1218px and 978px) – Recommended size is 1500 x 500 pixels.
If you are using boxed layout 1218 pixes – You can use image size of 1278 pixels x height of your choice ( say 500 pixels)
If you are using boxed layout 978pixes – You can use image size of 1038 pixels x height of your choice ( say 400 pixels)

If you use image size of 1500 x 500 pixels, it will be good for every site layout.

For the featured image size you can try the image 750 x 350 pixels.

Most themes I’ve seen has the text in the index.php file. The texts are sent as arguments to the
next_posts_link() and previous_posts_link() functions.

In the default theme the function calls embedded in the php tags looks like this:
<?php next_posts_link(‘? Previous Entries’) ?>
<?php previous_posts_link(‘Next Entries ?’) ?>
You only have to change the text here.
