Have you tried disabling all plugins to verify that it is not a conflict? What you describe is not how the plugin handles user registration unless a plugin or the active theme is changing that process somehow.

Go to the main users page in the admin of your site. At the top there is a filter to only show users by their status. In the dropdown you can select either ‘pending’, ‘approved’, or ‘denied’. Doing so will only show users that have that status.

There is even a red bubble with the number of pending users that show next to the user menu option in the admin so that you can easily see if any users need to be approved or denied.

All users, no matter their status, will show on the main users tab.

The ‘Approve New Users’ menu item (part of the plugin) will be going away in the next major release. Use the main users page for updating the status of the users. There are filters (at the top) on that page where you can see users by their status. For example, you can view all pending users and just update them from that page.

By “pending” users list, are you referring to the page in the admin located at /wp-admin/users.php?page=new-user-approve-admin? If you are, that page will be going away in the next major update. There are lots of problems with this page when there are lots of users.

Please use the default users page located at /wp-admin/users.php. It is a way better solution to manage users.

I have taken some time to test with the SMTP WP email plugin and everything works as expected. There is likely another issue causing the emails to not send correctly.

Are you getting emails from WordPress? For example, when you reset your password, are you getting that email?

The only thing extra we are storing on a user is if they have been accepted or denied as a status. And that is stored in the standard WordPress database structure. If the user wants this data removed with the other data, that will happen.

That’s a good question. The New User Approve plugin doesn’t store any personal user data outside of what WordPress stores. It seems like that falls onto each site owner to make sure their site is compliant.

I am still researching this with regards to what the plugin needs to be GDPR compliant outside of what each individual site owner needs to do.

Sorry that the email is confusing. I’d consider updating it for the next major release of the plugin but will keep it the same for any maintenance release.

That string should be translatable. If it isn’t, it is probably because the PO file needs to be updated but I’ll wait until the next major release again. Sorry if that causes any inconvenience.

If you need help on modifying the email to be less confusing, let me know. There are extension points in the plugin that allow for easy customization.

I’m having trouble understanding what you are trying to do. Do you want to give a user a status of pending?

I’m sorry that this is happening. Is anybody experiencing this issue? Perhaps it could be a conflict with another plugin? What are the plugins you are using on the site where you are experiencing this issue?
