Thank you for contacting me.

As the original author of this thread @japenz having a similar situation.
As a solution, I have added WebP on-the-fly conversion as a fallback for the browsers(Edge) that don’t support Avif Images.

Please do remember, to have that feature, it requires a hosting capable of generating webp images via Image Magic.

In cases where the server doesn’t support Avif or Webp conversion, it will serve the standard image.

Sorry to hear that, you can deactivate the plugin. Then it must work as before. Before that can you please provide the error its trowing, so we can quickly provide a fix if its related to this plugin.

Sorry for late replay, it had some issues with autoptimize regarding template redirection hook from wordpress.

I would not recommend this plugin for that special case. I’m taking you special case as feature to include in upcoming versions.

Thanks for your comment. This plugin does not provide any feature to allow .avif file upload. There is a simple way to do the same, please add this code snippet to functions.php of the current theme.

function add_avif_to_upload_mimes($mime_types) {
    $mime_types['avif'] = 'image/avif';
    $mime_types['avifs'] = 'image/avif-sequence';
    return $mime_types;
}
add_filter('upload_mimes', 'add_avif_to_upload_mimes');

Yes, it now use Image Magic ver >= 7.0.25 as a fallback for libavif. Many users/servers facing the same issue even without this plugin. Managing server-related stuff is beyond the scope of this plugin.

The plugin just checks if the image magic version is above 7.0.25 or libavif is installed or not via Php script.

If you have any specific issue, please mention it. So I can have total exposure to the issue.
