Guess not too many people are still using WP. I should probably stop wasting my time trying to find any modern templates. It seems like WP code and structure does not allow for modern website designs. I find it very disappointing that everything WP looks so similar, so european and dated these days. Just thought I’d give it one more chance before giving up on it completely. There must be a more user friendly and creative alternative for people wanting better than WP… I’ll keep looking.

I did get the Fantastico install to work. I wanted to use a different location url to match the original. Fantastico only does root + 1 level (domain.com/diary/)

I need root + 2 levels (domain.com/diary/wp/) and this causes it to not work.

Changing the site url in the database (exported from new Fantastico setup) does not work.

The Fantastico install does work, and if I upload my plugins and themes, I can get the appearance of the original site, but without all the extra pages I created.

I really wanted to keep the exact Google search url of the site. As it stands now, clicking on search results for my site leads no where. That’s the unfortunate part of all this. My pages were ranked, now they do not exist. Even the home page does not exist (as far as Google is concerned) ??

I don’t understand why Fantastico Install will not allow a url like domain.com/abc/def/ghi/jkl/….. or whatever I prefer.

I contend that if I were able to recreate the original sites exact url, basic functionality should be as simple as uploading my entire FTP backup folder.
Content, themes, css tweaks, pages, all should just work.

If I have an index.php page, shouldn’t it load? The address is domain.com/diary/wp/index.php… I can’t even get a basic page to load

I cannot get anything to display in a browser at all. I have edited the database.sql file and changed to all the correct URL’s, emails, etc.

I cannot use the basic fantastico install location because my pages in Google already have an address and I would like to maintain that. So I change the url’s and it still does not work. I have double checked several times. I have even purged all rows in “wp-comments” after getting the SQL error about conflicting comments during database import. (I exported the default database, changed the info, then imported)

Themes are loaded, plugins loaded, content re-loaded.

    Help!

    Thanks for the info….

I have edited this post 3 times in the last 30 minutes. Trying to explain my situation.

I am using the Fantastico install procedure. Problem is I do not have the old database. So I must keep the new database. Not sure how to modify the new database to suit. As of yet, I cannot get the blog to appear at all.

I realize the blog will not have my posts, but I would like to figure out how to get it running with all my tweaks, font changes, colors, header banner, etc.

I do have all the regular FTP saved files

    Thanks

I see the RSS feed icon in my Browser. I never would have found it! I never would have known where to look at all! Thank You very much.

Also, the Actions Tab…. Makes sense now, but I never would have guessed what to do. If you are familiar with this stuff it seems so simple. But what most people on here seem to forget is that newbies also come here looking for answers and we have no clue as to what you are talking about most of the time.

Thanks for your excellent help Micah!!!

Thanks for your help, but that Samboll dude really is rude! I guess he’s as annoyed with people like me who know nothing about WP as I am with people like him!

    Thanks again for your help.

RSS does not update on my browser. I can’t find any settings for it. Email program shows a link to my posts if I drag them to it, but no updates. I can just as easily bookmark the forum and check back every few hours I guess. Thanks anyway.

p.s. I don’t have an RSS page. I have only been able to find a profile page with a link for Favorites (?) and Subscribe to RSS feeds. No idea how that works… I clicked it and added the post. But no notification. No updates. I’ll just check back every few hours.

I am not a code geek. I am a regular person. I would not want to chat with you!

OK… well I’m on a Mac and I use Safari, but I would simply prefer to be emailed when updates or responses are made to my posts/questions. Should be simple. Maybe WP.org doesn’t have the ability to email users?

Gallery pics folder goes in “wp root folder” (or whatever you named it)
then followed instructions on this page. (download a plugin and activate)

    https://www.hongkiat.com/blog/execute-php-in-wordpress-post-page-and-widget-sidebar/

Allows you to directly use php code on a page/post or sidebar using this markup.

    <phpcode> content </phpcode>

    Works great!

The PowerGallery code is php. “Paste code into your HTML webpage”.

WP uses php, but the pages are html, and as an html page, I am wondering how to add a php Power Gallery to my WP blog. Just wondering what I’m doing wrong because the php code displays as php code, not the Photo Gallery like on every other website on the planet.

More info please… not sure where that setting is. Is it like email notification… like other forum type sites?

I figured out which theme I used. Now all I have to do is determine what files to swap out. Old site ran on 2.5 – Some php pages have changed, some have been added.

Having trouble finding the pages that control the menu bar and the sidebar.

This is exactly why I never updated from 2.5 – Too difficult to figure out which pages to swap and which to keep. I modified much of the appearance (fonts, sizes, colors, buttons, graphics, etc..

Is 2.9.2 a file, or does it pertain to the entire installation?
