Solution 1 is not working yet, due to problems on my hosting server. In the meantime, Spam Karma 2 is doing a nice job.

Thanks for the suggestion, they look good – Ive just installed #1 – slight problem, it blocks me out of my blog “I know you and I don’t like you, dirty spammer.” – guess I have some tweaking to do. <G>

Pages do not show in the regular stream of date ordered posts, depending on the theme they might be individually listed from the main page. I’m only using a few and playing around with how usefull they might be. I guess they could be linked to as general resource pages from individual posts.

Some of my blogs are included as subsites within regular web sites that already have pages, so for those there is no need for WordPress pages.

On second thoughts, changing them to ‘draft’ makes them a regular post in draft mode that you can edit in WordPress, in Posts instead of Pages.

I just figured out how to hack around this. Go directly into your mySQL database manager and edit the table ‘wp_posts’ directly if you are brave. Search for all records where post_status=’static’ – if you change any of these to post_status=’draft’ they will not appear, you can then change them back to static when you want them. However you can’t make any changes from within WordPress when they are in draft.

Since regular posts can be in draft mode and not appear, and links to external pages can be set to not be visible, it only makes sense to have this feature on pages.

I use pages for various things, and want to be be able to easily enable/disable them.

The other thing is that pages show as being in category Uncategorized – yet as far as I know there is no way of changing that, or using that feature.

I’m getting many hits a day from the poker spammers, but I have yet to get any comments posted by them, and I’ve no idea why not. My blog is totally open for anyone to comment, and I’ve had a couple of comments made, so commentuing works. I’ve done nothing to stop commment spam.

Oops – the post above was posted prematurly – before I noticed problems. It seems that the Xanga feed only has recent posts, and perhaps has syntax errors, so the date stamp is incorrect. Bottom line is that it does not work.

I’m now working on an alternate solution.

Thanks for this thread – I was expecting to have to cut and past my old Xanga stuff. Did the whole import in 10 minutes. To recap:

Take your Xanga URL and change the -home- to -rss-

so it looks like https://www.xanga.com/rss.aspx?user=xxxx

where xxxx is your Xanga ID

Go to wp-admin/import.rss.php and change

define(‘RSSFILE’, ”); to
define(‘RSSFILE’, ‘https://www.xanga.com/rss.aspx?user=xxx&#8217;);

You may want to play with the time zone setting – but I was too lazy to bother.

run import.rss.php

it imported my Xanga stuff complete with all the fancy formatting and colors I had been using.
