In reply to: WP3.7 Update Fails to CompleteWith the 3.7.1 bug-fix – the upgrade has now successfully completed so far as I can tell from the dashboard. (I still have to rebuild all non-post content with new themes / widgets etc, as a consequence of the failed 3.7 upgrade, but this ticket is no longer relevant.)

In reply to: WP3.7 Update Fails to CompleteHmmm. Still very very scary. I think I’ve succeeded in a manual update and reconnected the blog database. (The wp-admin, wp-content and wp-includes directories contain ONLY WP3.7 files, and the only php files in the root are those from WP3.7 – ALL other previously edited / active files are tucked-away in a holding directory. I left all static html and media file content alone so far.)
Blog shows up in default theme, so quite a lot of other content invisible, and only the default page links. Every media or content file link seems to be broken and every selected page links in side-bar and header invisible.
The admin dashboard still has a few bugs.
It still says the update was incomplete, asking that I re-attempt the auto-update? Where is it getting this status data from – is it in the database?
It still says I have 3 plug-in updates waiting, even though the plug-ins page says I only have Akismet and Hello Dolly (latest) installed.
This feels more like starting from scratch than an upgrade. Lots to do to re-build the site. (All I can say positively is that my 12 years worth of database contents – excluding static files – seem to be intact.)
Question – as a long term Dreamhost VPS user of WordPress, am I right in thinking my multi-blog(otherwise free) WP usage does generate WP income?

In reply to: "An unexpected error occurred." message after WP3.7 updateI have since done that, thanks @otiteb. But scarily not making much progress yet ….

In reply to: WP3.7 Update Fails to CompleteOK, so I have offline back-ups of both the mySQL db (XML export) and the wordpress files. And I have all the WP3.7 files unzipped ready to go.
BUT, the read-me says delete all existing WP files and then upload the new 3.7 files, and then I will still need to hit wp-admin/upgrade.
How am I going to have anything but a new WP install ? I’ll then need to manually redo ALL theme edits and plug-in installs …. ?
(This is the first time in 7 or 8 years the auto-update has failed.)

In reply to: "An unexpected error occurred." message after WP3.7 updateSorry can’t see any later thread than this one, but I have “WordPress 3.7 update failed to complete” when run from the auto-updater in the WordPress dashboard (and now many specific fatal errors / undefined function calls in the dashboard and the blog web page itself) It tells me to retry, but fails again the same way. (I’ve read the Master List as this post.) What is recommended – I have 5 separate blog sites in addition to this one where the update has failed. Help!
I see DreamHost is reporting a second consecutive day of brute force attacks aimed at WordPress, but affecting all their users.
Is this just an ongoing hangover from those users that didn’t fix their vulnerable admin user ID’s and pw’s last month, or is this attacking a new vulnerability ?

In reply to: [Postie] Postie broken in 3.3 _fill_user() problemFrom other forum thread …
Simply use FTP access to delete the wp-content/plugins/postie directory and all its contents.
(Fixes the dashboard access problem, but clearly those who want to use postie need to look at fix / reinstall for postie.)

In reply to: [Postie] Postie broken in 3.3 _fill_user() problemSame error after updating to 3.3 – Means I cannot access dashboard or any posting menus, etc.
Without access to the dashboard, how can I fix (or disable) postie ?

In reply to: Wish for LinkedIn / FaceBook GROUPSUnderstood. I’m not a developer myself, and it seems like an obvious piece of functionality for wider use. As I said, I’m not averse to paying for good work, have done so in the past, but it doesn’t look like a private need, so I’d prefer to share the cost.
Any suggestions where to place this, so that cruising Plugin Devs might spot the challenge ?

In reply to: Is anyone having a comment moderation problem?Yes, I am having several increasingly severe issues with moderating pending comments as spam, which end up deleting existing approved comments. Another symptom is that the edit comments page display changes for certain pending comments in the list a separate Cancel button is displayed inside the comment boundary underneath the
“Unapprove | Edit | Reply | Spam | Delete” line,
CANCELThe valid comment lost is always the first one after, the last Russian / Cyrillic comment I have marked as spam, and often that spam comment is the one with the display bug above.
I am WP2.7.1 / Akismet2.2.3 (No other plug ins.)

In reply to: Mass edit comments bug?Help. I am having similar bug (or bugs, or even a hack ?) corrupting valid comments when I am moderating spam comment in the edit comments page. I am using Akismet … but all indications so far is that this is a WP problem. Hard to get exact repeatability, but this recurs now many times. I’m Version 2.7.2
WHEN I “mark as spam” one or more spam comments the most recent valid comment after the last one marked as spam is also deleted. (And the reported number of comments pending is not always in synch with the list of pending comments – often one more reported than listed.)
AND One one or more comment displays corruptly with a “Cancel” button embedded where the approv / delete / spam links normally appear. This only ever happens with Russian Cyrillic spam, and I previously something about the content of the spam comment was hacking / corrupting the behaviour ?!?!?

In reply to: Heads Up re HackI have been having problems with large numbers iof Russian / Cyrillic spam getting past Akismet. This would just be a nuisance EXCEPT …
At least once the spam seemed to replace an existing legitimate comment and deletion of the spam deleted the legitimate comment too.
