SUCCESS!! Went to https://www.tamba2.org.uk/wordpress/ and went through the cpanel work. I had screwed up big time by not connecting the user to the db. Thanks for your help. If I had done everything correctly from the start, it would have been one of the easiest installations I have ever work with.
Thanks again, Moshu and Vkaryl, for the help

Created a user and attached the user to the wordpress database. Went to the browser and typed https://www.londoncircle.com/blog/wp-admin/install.php (as per instructions). Just tried https://www.londoncircle.com/blog/install/install.php I get the message 404 File not found. Not sure I understand the URL addy you note above. All files and folders were uploaded to the directory blog. Am I doing something wrong?

I have the same problem. The database was set up in phpMyAdmin. No instructions were given about setting up a table or fields. When I check the database, I’m told that there are no tables/fields set. Could this be a problem? I do not know how to set tables and fields in an SQL database.

This is the message I get.
    ***********************************
    Cana€?t select database

We were able to connect to the database server (which means your username and password is okay) but not able to select the masjid database.

    * Are you sure it exists?
    * On some systems the name of your database is prefixed with your username, so it would be like username_wordpress. Could that be the problem?

If you don’t know how to setup a database you should contact your host. If all else fails you may find help at the WordPress Supp
