The removed plug in is in the post title.
I didn’t analyze the problem in great depth; after seeing the error message which essentially shut down access to the relevant sites, and seeking guidance, the advice “remove the plugin” seemed the simplest approach, which I did. So I cannot provide the detail “line error” message to help isolate the matter.
I have solved the problem by removing the plugin from my sites (had to go to source level to do that, but its gone, now, and I don’t notice a decrease in functionality.)

In reply to: Admin VERY slow since 3.1Well, things suddenly improved yesterday. My (soon to be former) ISP host acknowledged that the problem was at their end, though they weren’t specific about the issue which led to the difficulties.
In the middle of the problem, the small provider I used asserted that the problems were caused by me, and that I should move my sites to a dedicated host. They generously provided me the name of an upstream provider who will provide everything needed to run the sites at about half the cost.
So, in part, the mystery remains as I don’t know exactly what went wrong, but in part I’m relieved that it wasn’t something I did to cause the problem. Of course, it will take a few weeks to rebuild the site!

In reply to: Admin VERY slow since 3.1WordPress.com has been experiencing a major ddos attack this weekend. While this shouldn’t theoretically affect www.ads-software.com, the akismet.com spam control service is operated out of wordpress.com, so maybe there is some linkage here.
it is a mystery, nonetheless.

In reply to: Admin VERY slow since 3.1I’ve noticed this problem too. Along with the slowdown, I noticed a sharp increase in spam emails entering the queue. My initial reaction/thought was that somehow I had a security compromise. I reached the point that essentially I gutted the system, took out all the wordpress code and files (after exporting the content), and then rebuilding from scratch.
Problem remains. Things run at a snail’s pace. I haven’t been able to test on other servers but have used different operating systems. The standard “plugins must be bad” argument doesn’t hold water as the site is now quite stripped down with very few plugins.
The system is slowest, however, on plugin and theme admin. It is faster in updating posts.
I’m obviously now using the most current versions of WP on a cleaned-up server. But it is slow . . . far too slow . . .

In reply to: Widgets won't moveThe issue is the ability to drag the widget items from the central menu to the sidebar to “activate”. I’m using catalyst/dynamic.
Here is a link to a screen shot of the widgets page.
I’ve checked to see if this simple “dragging” capacity common to virtually all themes is available on the standard theme with wordpress set up, and that doesn’t work for me either.
