In reply to: Claims of my programmer that WP won't work. . .I think these guys are intentionally trying to lock me into using their CMS so that I am forever reliant on their team for support.
haha, yeah, of course they are!! +1 for what Wpyogi said.
They couldn’t even install a pagination plugin for me!
It’s easy for people to be unethical when they assume their client doesn’t know much about technology.
As for the functions
The only thing in my site that is out of the ordinary are three PHP based calculators relating to various aspects of cars: tire size, engine displacement etc. . .
You can probably do that one part a ton cheaper if you hire someone who specifically makes plugins, and then have the new people (who know wordpress) make your site and use that plugin on a sidebar or grab it with a [whateverthisiscalled].
But on their defense, there is a generation of people who are not updated on this stuff and don’t realize what could be done quicker, and more efficiently (in terms of making the website) on wordpress. Or Perhaps they are just that older generation of not updated people who made a CMS a while back and, because of all the time and effort they put into it , find it too painful to learn how capable wordpress is.

In reply to: Are default settings sure enough?By the way, about plugin, could we really trust them? Are they verified and approved by WP developers or they add their plugins, as in a market, and it is up to the user on his own to choose?
I tried a plugin (with more 1 million downloads!) but I lost my WP install, so I’m a little bit skeptical!Wow. Thanks for telling me that. I assumed that plugins with enough downloads (about 10k+) are trustable.
U think somebody knew any of your passwords, or you accidentally changed a theme option. Or in other words, what happened to your WP install?

In reply to: modify user top barHow can i modify the top bar as seen when a user is logged in?
There is a plugin that allows people who are signed in to have a different top menu bar. Plugin 10 and 11 on this site sound similar. I could be wrong. I hadn’t tried them.
I know there are plugins that change the content of what posts users see after they are logged in.
You’re looking for a plugin, I just don’t know which. (I’m pretty sure it exists).

In reply to: 1 category on each pageThe only question though is how to make the category page a home page. hmmm…
Forum: Fixing WordPress
In reply to: 1 category on each pageYes, I had to do this a few days ago. So what you want to do is…
two parts
Part I
1. Assign everything under season 10 the category of season 10. You can do that by making a category, then go to each post and check off that category.
2. Then make a category for season 9. Whenever you make a new post check off season 9 so it goes there.Part II, the pages
1. Go to menu. Make a custom menu, and under categories click one and add to menu. That will add a page with all those posts to that page.
2. Knowing that, make page for season 10 and one for season 9.I’m so glad you asked me this. It took me a few days of procrastinating before I figured it out. Please let me know if I’m not clear at any point.

In reply to: Are default settings sure enough?Ok, more like 250% more. That link explains why
Do WP developers deliver by default “highly-secured” tool or should we be a savvy developer to get his own WP website as secure as possible?
Yes. As long as you have downloaded the newest model (which you can do automatically). People are able to hack the older ones, but the WordPress community is so big and active that as soon as new ways to hack it come out new solutions to avoid them come up too. I could be wrong, but I feel like the Drupal and (whatever the other one ) community isn’t as big and passionate about their CMS.
As I said earlier you can automatically have the new wordpress versions update automatically. Even if you don’t there will be a reminder on your screen.
You can also find plugins to be more secure. I had never tried any. But to answer your question, yes, developers deliver a very “highly secured” tool to begin with.

In reply to: Are default settings sure enough? If by secure you mean nobody can hack into it, as long as you are updated to the newest version (which you can do automatically if you’d like) yes.
If you want to be 1000% secure instead of 100% you can do a little more such as (if you did quick install) change the default username of admin to something else.
Theres more on this site.

In reply to: Changing Menu to a BarIs it possible to paste the header code from one theme into another theme? Or would that mess things up?
Very likely. You’ll have to know what the code means for the functions behind them. I’m pretty new to wordpress but maybe you could use a plugin like this one to add one. (In case that one doesn’t work )I’m guessing there are more plugins like this one.
