Ok, what software can I use as an alternative to MySQL?

Hey, my host has MySql and I’ve contacted them to try and update, just waiting for a reply. When I do activate MySQL, what do I do? Do I have to delete the current database on which I am making my blog.

So downloading MySQL will not work? What must I do?

I do not have MySQL on my host, but I downloaded it from MySQL.com

Schestowitz, could you explain to me how I install wordpress on my server?

I used MAMP and the wordpress is saved onto the htdocs folder and when I activate the Apache and MySQL servers, I can locate the blog on localhost:8888/wordpress.

I have PHP 5.

I also added the wordpress folder and it’s files to my domain via FTP.

Hey, I was able to connect and follow the tutorial, but I’m stuck on the part that says, run /wp-admin/install.php

tell me how this works.

I have seen that thread and I know how it’s done, based on what I’ve read, but I am following the instructions, just not being able to connect, also the interface of MAMP shown their is different from my mamp interface, I am using Mac Os Panther.

Ok when I access MAMP and start the servers I am taken to a site which says “eAccelerator” “PHPAdmin” etc, what do I do from there?

I installed MAMP, I installed it in the macintosh hardrive but then transfered it to a folder called Web Tools (that I made myself). I will try the URL thing.

Ok I have installed PHP, MySQL, Wordpres (ZIP) and MAMP, i have also started the MySQL server in system preferences, I still cannot access the files in the php folder etc. what do i do?

Ok I did download XAmpp, and I ran it, but what now? I tried opening everything else but it wouldn’t work, please help me. Sorry for all the questions.
