Found a work-around. two plugins, “Resize Editor” makes the work area the size you want and “Easy Wysiwyg Style” gives me the editor back to looking mostly like how it will look.

a follow-up, I tried it again thinking it might be a text/HTML only editor. When I click the Text tab, the page disappears, really sucks fix it I’m on 4.4.2 that may be why

I had the same problem then I read the install instructions and clicked where I wanted the button then save then the error went away.

but after I got it working it ruined my post I tried to edit, it erased all my image captions and put them in the text area, all my post was one big caption, had to restore with an older revision

I found the code for the page but the Editor is still narrow and the Max image size it the default 474. I’m using a child template for the site with all 474 items changed to 800. Isn’t the editor supposed to be close to your theme in appearance? I mean the last theme I used wasn’t as narrow in the editor and the choice of image sizes went up to the theme default.

I originally have the images (lower on the page) in horizontal rows across with 2 or three images in a row, now they are in a long vertical single column. what is it in the code that determines this? how can I tweak it so my images are in rows across?

Ok, something is fuc_&ed up if you Inspect Element and look just above the .site-description element with the crossed out color, there is another .site-description color: #969696, this reference is from the view source. There are no instances of color: #969696 anywhere in my style sheet, yet it is getting it from somewhere.
