With all the techies in here, I can’t believe nobody had an answer. If anybody has a similar problem to this–

All of my problems were related to the way Vista was opening my .zip file.

Seems simple, but I saw searched a lot of unresolved posts asking the exact same questions with the same symptoms. Internet explorer opening and closing repeatedly and having to log off or turn off computer to make it normal.

I eventually got to the Default Programs button located right underneath the Control Panel button.

I never changed this setting to anything different so I don’t know why it changed on its own. It just stopped working one day.

I set the .zip to associate with explorer. All problems solved.

Give it a try. If you’re screen is flashing when you try to open a .zip file, this will probably work.

I’ve somehow managed to get redirectify to show up but now i can’t get the automatic update to show up now. First I tried to unzip the file and explorer kept on trying to open a window that just kept closing. I opened the file with notepad and saved it as wordpress-automatic-update.php and created a folder for it named wordpress-automatic-update. It doesn’t show up. What did I do wrong?

I open the file from the plugins folder and its contents open in Windows Explorer.

Next, I try to open the top file (the powerpoint document and I get the message “all_in_one_pack is not a valid archive”.

I thought these steps were unzipping the folder. There isn’t any option to “unzip folder”. Help?
