    Hi.

Is Jeff Star able to clarify this question for me?
i created a new thread so he could see my question more clearly

It is causing a lot of problems for me not knowing what to do – or finding anyone who can advise

    Thanks

Hi Jan. The old post you have put at the top of this is still not resolved for me. this updated question is different from the one above. Can i post this somewhere please? Otherwise delete it and sorry

I have GA Google Analytics plugin in WPress

Here i have put the UA code taken from GA property into ID section at the top
The “tracking method” turned on at the moment here is for Universal Analytics ( analyticsjs )default.

But i also have the gtag.js put into my website source code ( GA Global site tag.)

Should i delete the UA code in ID and just use the gtag.js and switch tracking method to this also?

I see that it either OR for these codes. I am using both….what do i do please

Apologies, i did try and delete excess posts, but couldn’t. when i submitted the post, they didn’t show up immediately, so thought they hadn’t gone thru.

How does it work on here? I have had some v helpful comments previously.

If i feel a subject is finished, do i add the ‘resolved topic’ myself?

Can i delete a post if done in error?

Can i reply to an old post of a similar topic – if there’s more to be said?

I did search for the correct forum and posted, but i didn’t think this forum was still active

Can it please be left in the last forum location. Thank you and sorry for the confusion. I have to admit, i find it hard to navigate on here…but my problem!

    Thank you Michael

I wanted to confirm that the GA plugin with a UA code

AND i also have a GA Global site tag in source code

    Both are connected to GA

    Assume this is ok

    Cheers!!

    (@realme29)

    Yes that’s right

I thought i had heard its best not to have both as they cancel each other out, so may remove the html file anyway

Would be really useful to have confirmation if anyone knows for sure

    Thank you Jeff
I will try and explain as a lay person here!

So the GA plugin has UA code in the ID, then the method is for UA default.
I’m guessing this means there is already a code linking GA and WP here?

Confusion is – my web person, who isn’t sure exactly how to do this – put the global site tag taken from GA into the website source code recently as thought the correct thing to do as we don’t have a gstag anywhere…..

So when in GA plugin she saw that it was not set for global site tag but instead method is UA?

So do we need that gstag at all? if it has been put into the source code along with the UA somewhere is that causing conflict?

Also we have the meta tag from Search Console in WP webmaster??

I have been trying to sort this out for a long time and my website remains ineffective…do we have too many things conflicting here?
Any help gratefully received, i can try and piece it all together

    Ok thanks

I have copied and paste into new section and created a new topic

Is this how transfer normally works, or is there another method?

    Thank you

    I see what you mean.

I do have the HTML meta tag connected with SC already. The code when added in Yoast webmasters was reduced, none of the initial < parts are there…it starts with rg-3 and ends with EI. So hope this is correct?

But we have also added a global site tag taken from Google Analytics and put into a GA pluggin in WPress. So connected to GA this way. This is what i was refering to in the above post

Do we need both – both meta tag going to SC and global site tag going to GA?

Thank you for any help…have been trying to unravel and understand this for over a year now!

Can i also ask this please

When connecting and verifying WP to link with Search Console etc, i have 2 tags that do this.
I have the HTML googlee file located in the Theme root directory.( i think )
I also have the HTML meta tag in WP Yoast/Webmaster tools.

i have heard one cancels the other out? Is this true? Is it ok to have both or should i delete one of them or does it not make any difference to leave them both there?

Thank you v much for your detailed answer
I will delete what is currently also written in Quode SEO. Even though this text is not appearing anywhere else, there still may be a conflict. I will check quode is disabled.

    May i ask
In the Yoast pluggin settings for GA tracking, how do we know which setting to use in the “tracking method” section?
I have a UA blah code at the top under GA tracking ID. But my web person has also just put into the source code somewhere a GA Global site tag. The method turned on at the moment here is for Universal Analytics ( analyticsjs )default.
But should it be Global site tag ( new method )

As there have been many mistakes with this website, it is 2 years old now, is this correct? I would be so grateful to know as can’t get an answer for this anywhere!

    Thank you for the reply

I’m not a SEO person and have resorted to working it all out myself ( v limited! ) as i can’t find anyone to help me with various questions still pending about my website

The person who designed the site is doing bits of SEO for me, but she sometimes doesn’t fully understand what to do
I think she told me she put the googlee code (HTML file ) in the ‘child theme’ part of Bakery theme in WP?

Anyway, i will hold out for any other answers to this, but suspect u may be right to remove it

…sometimes i have kept the variable of PAGE in the SEO title – and yet, my own added meta description does actually show up in searches as snippets – rather than taking it from my page –

    So i can’t see a pattern!

    hello
    Thanks for reply!
Quode is not another pluggin, but its part of WordPress
It’s on page edit, scroll down to the bottom.

I’ve had several supposed SEO’s trying to add meta descriptions etc to my website pages. But nothing has worked
One put descriptions into the Quode section

So i have been trying to understand how the Yoast SEO works. After several weeks, i thought i had sorted it.
    I wrote the perfect keyphrases.
    Then the meta descriptions
But the SEO title is still confusing….i understand the variables help with larger sites as a template. TITLE is taken from page title, PAGE takes the top text from that page and SITENAME is what u have called the site.
My question is, the meta description i write never comes up in searches. It is always taken from the page text, not my description.
Do i need to delete the PAGE variable in order for google to read my description? I have tried this but it still doesn’t work
So i looked at Yoast SEO, search appearance, content.
The page variable is there still, do i have to delete it from this section in order to have my own M descr text showing up in searches??

Most of my descr are green, so i have done them properly!

I copied it here. Assume thats ok. First time on here,
