In reply to: quicktags.js for rel=”external”Thanks. The ability to choose sounds great, as I don’t want internal links to spawn a new window.

In reply to: need your professional reviewI found the layout a bit confusing. This is probably a personal shortcoming of mine, but if the content isn’t laid out for me to see, I am unlikely to go looking for it. I need something interesting to catch my eye, rather than having to drill down for content.

In reply to: Forum Based BlogI like the layout, but it’s hard to read. Not enough contrast between text/background. Otherwise, looks great.

In reply to: My siteThis is unreadable on a white background. Perhaps you meant to have a darker background image?

In reply to: AdSense Targeting & BlogExplosionBlogexplosion seems to work great for me. It takes a bit of time to get approved (2 or 3 days?) but once you’re in, it adds a good bit of traffic to your site. Of course, you only get out of it what you put into it, but I sometimes wander around blogs aimlessly, so I might as well generate some traffic while I’m at it.
Regarding the referral link, I’m sorry if I offended anyone. If you sign up under my name, you don’t lose anything and I get additional visits equal to 10% of what you generate for yourself (again, you don’t lose the 10%, it’s just extra for me). I actually signed up using a referral link that someone else posted in a thread here.

In reply to: redirect questionNot to hijack my own thread, but is there any chance that you are using a custom usercontent.css file to block ads? See:
for details. This is an incredibly powerful and effective way to block ads, and it’s definitely effective against AdSense (based on the size/shape of the ad blocks, I believe).
I was running it awhile back and had forgotten about it. Thus, in rare cases when I actually wanted to see ads, I couldn’t. It took me awhile to figure out that this was the cause.

In reply to: redirect questionOkay, I posted over at my web provider’s support forum, but I think I might know what’s going on… Perhaps it’s getting thrown into a loop wherein it keeps redirecting from one to the other. Assuming that my server, unlike Google, truly treats these as equivalent, then it could be in an endless loop.
Still no idea how to fix the problem, though.

In reply to: redirect questionThanks. Made the change in cpanel, but now I get an error saying that the redirection limit for this url has been exceeded. Not sure what to make of that.

In reply to: .htaccess keeps getting overwrittenOkay, that explains it. I haven’t changed anything with regard to permalinks in the past week, but I did play around with creating a page. That must have triggered the overwrite. I have locked down the file and just need to remember to add write privileges (and to copy the mods that I’ve made within the WP block) before making a new page. I can then paste the mods back in and relock it.
Thanks!

In reply to: .htaccess keeps getting overwrittenDoh! That’s likely what happened. However, some of the redirects that I’m doing involve the modification of the WP redirects. In other words, I’ve modified the feed redirects following this blog entry:
https://www.mundell.org/2005/03/26/216/
to redirect request to feedburner. This requires modification of the WP section.
As a temporary fix, I’ve made the file read only (i.e., no write permissions). Are there other functins besides modifying the permalinks that would require WP to be able to write to this file? In other words, is removing the write privileges going to ‘break’ any WP functionality?
Thanks,

In reply to: thoughts on my siteOkay, a few more tweaks. I’ve shortened the header image a good bit and I’ve tweaked the background color again. I’d appreciate any comments that y’all might have about the latest changes, or about anything else that you happen to notice.
