  • Thanks HandySolo I did read it several times and I do realise that there are different passwords – I actually don’t think I need to reset the password. If it was wrong surely it would say it was wrong – I just get a blank page!

The problem is “when I access the wp-login.php page I enter admin/password and get an error “Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage” – this isn’t a password error – is it?

    thanks,
    Kath

I am having a similar problem only I know that mine is a problem with accessing the dashboard for my blog on my website.

I know my username and password and it worked a few weeks ago but not recently, when I access the wp-login.php page I enter the details and get an error “Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage” – there is a customised 404 page on my site but I get the IE7 error page.

I have other usernames and passwords as you have mentioned but its the blog one I am having problems with. FTP access to my site indicates that all is ok there.

If I ask for another password it says that I can’t be found on the database but I am not sure what my username is for my blog – it doesn’t appear to be the same as for support.

thanks for any help you can give

Oh heck, I didn’t intend to kick off this kind of exchange but I do appreciate all the feedback.

Our WP blog was set up by a designer 18 months ago who did it all for us and mentioned nothing about upgrades. I can see that some think that is naive on my part and I guess I just have to accept that view. If I knew the answer I wouldn’t have come here asking the question – so now I know.

I am in the process of doing exactly what you say above to fix this and hopefully all should be well and the hole that the hackers used will be plugged. As it turns uout I also had an old version of Carp on my server was wasn’t being used but hadn’t been deleted or upgraded either.

I guess i will never know if it was WP or Carp but one or the other seems likley. I obviously won’t make this mistake again and I will come back here for support. So, thanks everyone for all your feedback, much appreciated ??

You should be glad that there are people like me who don’t know the things that you guys know – it means you will always be in demand!

    Have a good Sunday,
    Kath

Thanks for the tip – I wonder what they could have done?

Th problem here was that my designer gave me the wrong URL to login…. I had a wordpress login screen with the URL he gave me so I didn’t know it was incorrect.

    Thanks for your help

Thanks Les, I disabled privacy in Norton but it still doesn’t work – thanks for the suggestion though.

I am trying to log into https://wordpress.com/wp-login.php and I have wordpress set up on my URL at https://www.strategyconsultinglimited.co.uk/businessadvice/ but so far I cannot change or add anything as I cannot get into it.

Our designer can and he changed the password to see if that would help but it didn’t. I had to register a new account to get to this support and that worked fine but as I didn’t set this up I’m not sure if the process is completely different.

I am getting desperate for a solution so if anyone can help please make any suggestions ??

I will try the other routes you mention too.

    Thanks

In the absence of a respose that solves this is there anyone I can call to get this fixed?

    Thanks

Sorry… forgot to mention that we have a Belkin Router with a firewall turned on

I can’t see how to add individual browser permissions but our designer doesn’t think this should be causing the problem.

    Thanks
