so it appears that the widget is sizing the images to be maybe masonry autosize according to what the image sizes would be in pointers, but a much smaller scale. Am I incorrect?
Trying to uniform the display size to be all same size squares only.
I will play with it more

although, when electing column setting, it does change the post image gallery to display as a column as well…hmmm. I will play with it for a bit, and see how to correct his.

GOT IT!!!! Wew!!! It was sensitive to the size of the sidebar and auto-sizing the thumbnail to the width setting of the sidebar and the columns amount setting. I had to run trials of different setting mixes and finally came up with what was needed: 1 column and 1/4 sidebar.

Hi, the wordpress gallery inserts within the post perfectly. The thumbnails of this widget are smaller than the thumbnails of the wordpress gallery within the post. And when I select medium size, they even get smaller. it is definitely strange. Here is a temp page: https://asjune.com/wordpress/?p=1
