In reply to: [PowerPress Podcasting plugin by Blubrry] Just A Sales ToolHey John,
I’ve been using this plugin for several podcasts for several years now (all on self-hosted WordPress sites – NOT through Blubrry’s hosting service). I can tell you it’s a fantastic tool for creating podcast feeds including for custom post types. I’ve got one client website that has 5 separate custom post types all with their own unique podcast feeds setup through the Powerpress plugin. There’s some great documentation on how to use it for custom post types here: https://create.blubrry.com/resources/powerpress/advanced-tools-and-options/post-type-podcasting/
That said, it will not create any new custom post types on your website. You’ll still need to do that yourself using another plugin or custom code in your theme. They do recommend using one of these two plugins that play well with the Powerpress plugin: Custom Post Type UI or Types.
Hi Angelo,
Here’s what I created for the feed slug for the custom post type feed: thetrust-podcast
the full feed URL is:/all-thetrust/feed/thetrust-podcast/
I do get the option to check the box for this to be Protected Content and restrict access to users with a specific role. I’ve done that. However when I view the feed URL there’s no password protection on it (and yes I’ve checked to be sure I’m in a private browser, cookies dumped, and not logged in to the website).
(Here’s a screenshot of the settings I get in the dashboard: https://www.dropbox.com/s/90uwb7qj42odxzp/Screenshot%202020-07-24%2015.48.55.png?dl=0 )
This seems to be a bug or something’s missing with the functionality of protecting content for post type podcast feeds. The check box and functionality is all there in the feed settings but something is not working when it loads the actual feed to protect it.
I’d be amazing to have this figured out at some point. ??
(BTW, I LOVE the Powerpress plugin! I’ve been able to set up a lot of podcasts – and usually very easily with your plugin. Thank you!)
Yeah, I’m finding that the channel only works with the regular posts, not custom post types – even when I try to lock it to a custom post type that doesn’t have any other feeds created for it.
I’ll have to think about this some more but at this point it looks like I won’t be able to create password-protected feeds for custom post types on this website.
If you ever decide to make the password-protected functionality work for Post Type Podcasting, it would be pretty awesome.
Thanks Mike! A follow up question:
When creating a Podcast Channel limited to this specific custom post type, I don’t get a separate Podcast Episode media box on the individual posts that is linked to the Podcast Channel feed. So the Podcast Channel feed doesn’t ‘see’ any posts.
Is this because I’m already using the Post Type Podcasting feature and can’t have some custom post types with feeds setup using the Post Type Podcasting AND have other custom post types using Podcast Channels?
Thanks Angelo.
The specific functionality I’m looking for is the ability to create a podcast feed based on a custom taxonomy for a custom post type – and specifically for a custom post type NOT with the slug ‘podcast’. I realize this is a pretty unique use case and may not be worth the effort to build out but it would be an awesome feature to have (especially for more sophisticated podcasters with complex forms of audio resources managed through their websites).
I’m marking the original issue as ‘resolved’ in that with the current functionality of the Powerpress plugin it’s not possible to do what I was trying to do.
Thanks for your help!
Okay, thanks Angelo.
You may want to take a look at your documentation about the Taxonomy Podcasting as there’s one line in there that could give the impression that someone can use a custom taxonomy of a custom post type to build a podcast feed:
Also, if a custom post type is used the following attributes will also need to be applied during the register_post_type function call. Please see the Post Type Podcasting page for requirement details.
https://create.blubrry.com/resources/powerpress/advanced-tools-and-options/taxonomy-podcasting/
Also, it would be awesome if you ever decide to develop out this specific functionality!
Okay, that worked! I had has_archive=false before and changing to true seemed to work.

Thanks Angelo! I’ll dig in to the CPT setup and see if I can figure out what’s missing that will then let the custom post type feed work. Stay tuned.
Forum: Themes and Templates
In reply to: Trouble with "Setlist" themeMalkers,
I have a client whose site I set up (and continue to manage) that uses the Setlist theme.
Overall, it’s been a decent theme to work with and has gotten the job done however there are a few limitations. Our biggest challenge has been the featured posts that show up on the home page slideshow. These posts are a separate from the standard WordPress posts and do not show up in the main posts (‘news’) section of the site. Not a big deal except that the only way for a user to find these posts is through the homepage slideshow or a site search. They do not show up in any other category or post list page. This isn’t how I would have built the theme nor would have chosen to buy it if I had known this previous to purchase.
This might not be an issue for you but I’ve noticed on the seller’s support forum that I’m not alone in finding this frustrating.
Other than this the theme works pretty much as advertised. If those are the features you’re looking for, go for it.
