I just wanted to give you an update that the host went into my WordPress admin and was able to clean it up and get it working. I’m not exactly sure what he did but it looks great now thanks so much for your help.

That is very nice of you. I downloaded the 4.8 zip file, but can’t figure out how to upload it in the cpanel. It has a drag & drop area, but the tutorials I read say to unzip first. It’s getting late. I’ll try again tomorrow.

I had the host use a guest login to my WP site and he tried to update it with no success. Earlier he said that the “The server’s firewall deleted the init.php file because the file is out of date”. I’m not sure. The site looks ok on Chrome, but not right on IE11, all the menus are on the left in a column.

Thanks so much for your help. I really appreciate it.

Hi @britner Thanks for the replies.

Forgive me, I’m an advanced novice. And please don’t misunderstand my intentions. I love this theme and have been pleased with if for a few years. I went in and restored to a recent backup today because I couldn’t find the folder for Kadence in my cpanel and having my site down was making me concerned. It only took a couple of minutes.

I’m in the CPanel looking at the plugins and I see a “Virtue Tool Kit”, But the one to update on the WP Admin is called “Kadence Tool Kit”. Is that different? Maybe that was the problem? I followed your instructions and deleted the Virtue Tool Kit directly from the files.
    — I went back to the WP Admin and refreshed the plugins.
    — I got a message that said the Virtue tool kit has been disabled because the file not longer exists.
    — Then I got a new message to install the Kadence Tool Kit. I am installing that plugin. It installed successfully, and I checked my website and it was working.
    — I thought I was in the clear, but I clicked to activate the Kadence Tool Kit and I just got this ERROR message again.

Warning: require_once(cmb/init.php): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/XXXX/public_html/wp-content/plugins/virtue-toolkit/metaboxes.php on line 14

Fatal error: require_once(): Failed opening required ‘cmb/init.php’ (include_path=’.:/usr/local/lib/php’) in /home/XXXX/public_html/wp-content/plugins/virtue-toolkit/metaboxes.php on line 14

I’m not sure what to do next. I’ll put in a service ticket to my host and see if they can figure it out.

On a side note, there was 2 other people with this problem on the main Kadence forum, but I didn’t understand what there solution was…

? Had the same Problem with the newest update, they changed something in the root/post_types.php … changed it with an old Version from https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/virtue-toolkit/advanced/ (at the buttom to download old Versions) and it works again after Setting -> Permalinks -> Save

    Hi Kevin,
I can’t log into my site at all. I’ll have to wait until this evening to do a full restore, therefore I can’t see anything right now. If you click on my link, you’ll see what I see, just an error message with for plugin folder.

I only updated ONE plugin at a time so that I can tell which one is interfering. I only touched this one, and the error message pertains to this exact plugin. I wills say that I had a lot of problems with the new WP 4.9.1 and had to delete folders from the cpanel and reinstall the apps. luckily the app data was still there (like woo commerce).

I can check with the host, but I’m not sure why this would be a brand new thing all of the sudden. I’m able to update other plugins without a problem. I’ll see if I can delete this folder like I did the other apps once I restore my site.

    Any help is appreciated!
    Many thanks!

    Still having problems!

Hello! I have had the same problem with the Kadence Tool Kit. I had to restore from a backup on my cpanel because I am completely unable to login to the WordPress Admin. I have waited a few weeks and noticed that there’s a new release. I first updated the Kadence Theme Virtue successfully, then I just tried to update the Kadence tool kit again, and I’m still seeing the following message. I cannot get into my WP admin again, and will have to restore the entire site again. I don’t understand what the problem is. I’ve used this theme for almost 3 years with no problems. Please help. Thanks! (I read the original reply… do I uninstall the tool kit and add this advanced tool kit? I’m not understanding. Thanks!)

    Hi Steve,
Thanks for being patient. I figured it out! In the Google AdSense, when there’s not an ad to be placed, it requires a mandatory URL in its place. Since my audience are artists, I added the external site https://www.illustrationfriday.com and it caused all their scripts to load on my page. I removed that link in the ad and now those file requests and scripts are gone! Thanks so much. Who knew!?!

I’m really at a loss. I”m trying all the W3 Total Cache Plugin settings from tutorials.

Please note the the Disqus is not on my website. It’s the external site that I can’t seem to disconnect from https://www.illustrationfriday.com I contacted them to remove my posts but haven’t heard back. Half of the file requests are coming from them…not my site.

Any clues as to how an external site can cause all these problems?

    Many thanks,

I can try the above. Do you know why an external site that I frequently visited would cause all the problems? (I used https://www.pingdom.com) Google Ads was only 2.9% and Illustraton Friday was over 2mb. I don’t have anything linked to them. It’s just so strange to me that it’s coming from one site.

    Thanks for taking a look.

Sure thing! I wasn’t sure if that was allowed.
    My site is https://www.fiasdesigns.com

and the site sending 91 file requests is https://www.illustrationfriday.com and I had previously uploaded about 23 images. Some were from my desktop as submitting to their weekly drawing prompts.

    Thanks so much!

Solution – I tried a full restore but I received an error message saying that was an error in the wp-includes folder that the version-php file was missing.

So, I restored a backup copy of the last working version of my files. Then I recreated the 2014, 01, 02, etc sub folders and dragged my files from the restore to the current 4.0 version.

Now all the links point to my files. What a job! I hope this helps at least one person.

    Best WP Wishes!

This has become a very difficult problem. Some update or plugin caused ALL of my upload files to be deleted.

The “uploads” folder is in tact, and there are only 2 sub folders, 08 and 09. I started creating the website in 04 April.

I spoke with my host. I’m trying to add the files back but the paths are different for each file and I have 150+ images and it’s not easy to know which files were loaded into which folders by month. (I just de-activated that setting to assign the uploads into monthly folders.)

My other option is to restore my website to what it was a month ago via CPanel Installatron.

Thanks Kandence. I’ll log into the control panel and get support on the line to help me with the uploads folder. Sounds strange!
