Hello Josiah,
I had selected the no sidebar template and now I’ve tried the other ones with sidebars as well. It doesn’t matter which one I use: the error keeps occurring.
It’s a bizarre error indeed. Putting text in the default WordPress text editor without using Elementor at all, will also make it duplicate, so I assume it’s the Hestia theme’s fault.
It has a custom page template that you can use to put your own text blocks in. With that one the content is not being duplicated. It’ll work just fine. However, with that custom template you get a different header and you won’t be able to use the text box in it, like you do on the homepage template’s header. This renders it pretty useless, finding an alternative theme would be better. That’s why I’m going to give up this theme and use a different one, while trying to make the site look as much like the other one as possible. Kinda done with this.
Thanks a lot for your time and help!
Best regards,

Thank you for your responses.
The thing is, I’m building the site for a client who already has a different website belonging to another company. The client wants this one to be nearly identical in style because the two companies should be visibly related. This is why I’m using the same theme and such.

The reason I want to make custom content is because the options for the default homepage template are very limited. You basically have around eight different ‘widgets’, to call ’em that, with baked in functionalities. These did the job for the previous site’s homepage content, but this time there’s new things that need to be added, which can’t be accomplished through those widgets. There is a text widget, but it’s too limited. This is why I want to build my own elements into the body, while keeping the original header and footer, so that it will still be very recognizable to those who know the other site. Which works just fine, if it wasn’t for the duplicated content below the footer. The footer that’s in there right now, IS the default one. I tried making a custom footer to see if that one could be aligned to the bottom or at least below the duplicate content, but it couldn’t be done – it just behaved exactly the same as the default footer.
Also, when you enter text in the standard WordPress text editor instead of Elementor, the same thing happens with that text – it gets duplicated below the footer. This makes me think it’s not necessarily Elementor’s fault as well…

If I end up not finding a solution, then we’ll just be unlucky and I will have to migrate the site to another theme after all. Thank you for the tips, they will come in handy in case that’s gonna happen.
Hi t-p thank you, I will try.
I’m sorry I didn’t find the correct sub forum in the first place. I tried looking for one, but failed.

In reply to: Unwanted word suddenly included in my WordPress URLsHey Steve,
The culprit has been found and you won’t believe it, but it was as stupefyingly simple as a changed slug. No idea who turned “home” into “communicatietraining” unannounced, but now that it has been restored, every link on the site that leads to another site page is invalid and has to be updated.
While I’ll be busy with the tiresome job of updating 50-some links, I do have to thank you for taking the time to try and help me in my search for a fix so ridiculously obvious that I never even thought of it. At least we can move on. Thanks again!
Regards,

I have double checked everything and I can confirm that there are no custom rewrite rules to be found anywhere.

In reply to: Unwanted word suddenly included in my WordPress URLsHello Steve,
Many sincere thanks for replying to my question.
Unfortunately, I do have to say that disabling Yoast did not fix the URLs and there is also no custom permalink structure or whatever – it is set to “Post Name” and that’s it. I really thought it would be Yoast related… Weird. ??
I can’t believe that was all I had to do, but I wouldn’t have done it without your tip, t-p. It helped! Thank you so very much!
I would almost forget to add!

As soon as this started, before I was logged out and couldn’t log in anymore, I noticed that there started to be something strangely wrong with my custom css as well.
I am using this plugin: https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/custom-css-and-javascript/installation/
While my custom css was still there and still in effect, the editor was completely empty. I couldn’t find my custom css anywhere. I could type in it, starting on line 1 again, but my previous code is gone – while it really isn’t, because it still works and is still in the source code.
Perhaps it is related to this problem, but it could be something else entirely.
